New heads, rockers...results are at least good
Finally got my TrickFlow TW pocket ported heads and 1.7 TF rockers installed. Ran it around for a couple of hours to break things in before I romped on it. More torque at the bottom end and pulled hard to 6000 RPM. Pretty much as TrickFlow said.
Seat-of-the-pants says improvement, but not monumental. Wouldn't you know that my G-Tech is just now on the blink so I can't even do that comparison. My guess is a few tenths (.3?) improvement. will go to the track next Fri. for a definitive test. Right now I'm kinda glad to have that job done. Apparently my old 351W heads were pretty good, but the new TFTW Al. heads are definitely some better at least. Rev |
You freed up quite a bit of weight in the front too with the aluminum heads.
How much did the set of heads cost you? |
The heads from Summit alone were $1025. I also got TF 1.7 roller rockers $240, TF gasket set $90, ARP head bolts $40, Lunatti adjustable push rod to check for valve/ piston clearance and to get correct push rod length $65, correct length TF push rods $85, ARP moly lube $8, ARP thread sealer $9, new collector gaskets, spark plugs, RTV sealer, etc., etc. from local auto supply.
I think the whole job cost me $1700-1750 including a pocket port job on the new heads ($150). Was it all worth it? I'll know that after I get back from the track in about a week. Car runs strong set-of-the-pants opinion. Rev |
Mine got faster after a bit of break in too.
Also get some gears to help take advantage of them. How are you otherparts matched? You should trap 105+ Skyler |
Sky, everything is matched as close as I can get it for a street driver. 268 CC hydraulic, Edelbrock Performer, Road Demon, Forged TRW flat tops, Canton crank scraper/windage tray, March pulleys, Mallory Unilite, C-4 with B&M shft kit, TCI 2500 stall convertor, 325 Traction-lock, BFG Radial TA's 235/60/15's.
Now with the TFTW heads and 1.7 RR's. I can't believe my G-Tech wouldn't work when I really needed the so and so. Rev |
What is the stall speed on a TCI Break-a-Way converter? They say it's about 1000 RPM over stock. What's stock? Is this the converter you have Rev?
|
My TCI Breakaway stalls at 2500-2550. About right for my combo.

I have the TCI Break-a-Way stall converter also. I'm guessing mine should stall somewhere near the same as yours since we have the same transmission and close to the same power numbers. Especially before you did your head swap.
