New Quiz
Ok, since Unit knew it all, here's a new one. It's a little bit harder.
1. The Five speed Taurus SHO first used a cable shifter, then switched to a rod shifter. In what year did this happen? 2. A Ford GT40 once finished a Le Mans race using someone's belt to hold it together. True or False? 3. for the '99 F-150 and 250 (non superduty) trucks, how many possible combinations of cab style and driveline (4x2 and 4x4) did Ford offer? 4. How many NHRA Pro Stock championships did Bob Glidden win in his career? 5. How many 427 Cobras did Shelby American produce during the 60's? 6. Is it possible to alter the ignition timing on a 5.0 Mustang by simply changing the mass air meter? 7. match the engine with the series name in the following: 1. 429 a) Y- block 2. 428 b) 385 series 3. 351 c) Cleveland/Windsor 4. 292/312 d) FE 8. In what year of F-series truck production were there two separate body styles? Hope this isn't too hard for you guys. Oh, and girls. Oh, and Unit has to wait until a few people post. He's too good. Sorry, I was waiting for Unit to post, and I kinda forgot about it. I'll post them in the morning, give someone else a chance to guess.
Later. |

So it's fair for me to jump in now? LOL. Actually, there are quite a few of these that I'm not sure on.
1. 1992 2. True 3. **** , like 250. Yeah, yeah, they advertised it, but I can't remember. 4. 10 5. 2000 6. Sure 7. Sub1. 429 = b Sub2. 428 = d Sub3. 351 = c Sub4. 292/312 = a 8. 1997 F150 was updated, F250 was not. |

1) 1992 model year, 1991 production year
2) A gentleman named John Edwards did something similar to replace a thrown fan belt in his GT40 while touring Le Mans, but he wasn’t racing, so I say False. 3) Not including different engines, transmissions, trim packages, wheelbase packages or bed lengths, (going on body styles and 2 or 4 wheel drive) a total of 14 combinations exsisted. 4) 10 championships (85 victories) 5) Approximately 1000 6) By doing nothing more than swaping a MAF? I don’t think so, but there probably is (why else would you ask?). My answer is no. 7) 1 = b, 2 = d, 3 = c, 4 = a 8) 1997. The 1997 F250 maintained the ‘92-’96 body style Take care, -Chris ------------------ Retired Moderator MustangNet My site: Peckerwoods Pit Stop My teams site: Jim Porter Racing RACECAR spelled backwards is RACECAR HEY !!! Dammit Unit! You hadn't answered yet when I started to answer! Oh well. I have a sinking feeling all of the odd true false questions are true, but I stand by my answers.

Ok guys and dolls, here's your answers:
1. 1992 model year, 1991 actual year 2. True, at the 67 Le Mans, the J-6 Mark IV GT40 blew its rear body work loose, and was held together for its Second Place finish with duct tape, pop rivits, and pants belts. 3. 12 There were no Crew or Chassis Cab F-150's or 250's 4. 10 5. 260 street 427's and 348 big block Cobra's of all types (street, race, semi-competition, Competition, Super Coupe, chassis only, an European) were built 6. Yes. The MAF signal is part of an equation the computer uses to compute the engine load. The load tables then give the computer the proper fuel and spark parameters. 7. 1-b, 2-d, 3-c, 4-a 8. 1996 How'd everyone do? Anyone else have a good quiz for us? |

I agree that the MAF effects ignition timing, but I don't see how simply changing from one MAF to another would alter the timing. Could you explain it a little more for me? #8 What body styles are you referring to? I have a problem with #8. The question did not specify 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton, it just says F series. If the question were to read "In what year of F-250 series truck production were there two separate body styles", I would have to answer 1997. If I remember right you could get the light duty 3/4 that had the "new" 1/2 ton body, or the heavy duty 3/4 that retained the older style from 92-up.
For that reason, I'm standing by my original answer. Since 1997 its possible to get 2 separate body styles in F-series trucks. Thanks for the quiz, I missed out on the last one! andy |

Ok, I admit it seems a bit hokey, but let's say that you have a stock 70mm MAF, and you put on a 75mm MAF. Because you have more air coming through, the computer will have to add more fuel and timing to compensate. It's kinda on the same level with adding a blower or NOS(dry system). Because you're reading more air flow, your engine now needs more of the other stuff, i.e. fuel and timing. Does that help?
#8, remember the 94 Lightning? From that body style to the newer Lightning style. I can't really explain any more. My head is swimming a little. Can't think straight right now, tad bit sick. But I assure you that 1996 was the year they had 2 different body styles. Hope that clears somethings up. Later. |

You could simply replace the MAF with a broken MAF, that would do it. (my logic for true).
For the F series I was counting the V-6, V-8's, diesels, and the Lightning's engine. Whoops! LOL. |

It's a 4.2L V-6. No more I-6, that ended in 1996 I believe.

# 8 is 1996 if my menory serves me correctly. That was the first year of the new body style, but they still made f-250's with 351CID engines in the old body stlye(square as opposed to more rounded).

I agree with Mach 1's thinking, except the new design was in 1997, not '96. 96 f150s looked the same as 95's. BUT, he's right in theory. The first year of the new design, Ford maintained the old body style for their 250's.

Not saying that you're wrong, but that this is based on th eifo I have at my hands. I'f I'm wrong then I'll gladly retract any of my misguided answers. Besides, sometimes it's more fum to be wrong. Like when you street race, or when you're in the bed with, oh...yeah, forgot, I'm married, I ain't supposed to think like that. heh heh. I'm a dirty old man.
