My Sound Card is BAD!!

NUTHER PC QUESTION FOR ALL YOU SMART AND HIGHLY LITERATE COMPUTER GEEKS OUT THERE!!! ;)

Yesterday, I was trying to open a download...BUT it said that it could not open it or play it cuz I either have no sound card or my sound card is bad...so...evidently that is the problem w/ why I have no sound.....

NOW...I fixed the Power supply myself last time, is this something I can do myself, where is it located, is it hard to do, and how do I get one, and what kind do I need....

I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the sound card!! Any advice???

:mad:TNT

If you can replace a power supply on your own, I'm sure you'd be able to figure out how to replace a soundcard. As a soundcard is less work to swap, though getting it to work with windows can be a pain. Now if it's onboard sound(permanantly attached to the motherboard) it could become a little tricky. I'd make sure it's not a software/driver issue before I went out and picked up a new sound card, which may be best left to someone who really knows what they're doing.

Christine,

sound card can't be fixed just replaced i think. you have to take the cover off you case and look in back for where your speakers plug into the back of your case. then just pull out and replace with new one or one you know is good. do you still have all the book that came with your computer. if so look in there and should show where to find your sound card.

First thing you can install a sound card pretty easy process.

What you need to do first if find out what slots you have on your motherboard, either AGP or PCI then when you go shopping, only pick a soundcard to buy that will fit into whichever slots you have.

Once you determine which slots you have go here.

If you ever need anything for your computer, this is the place to go.

Just thought I should point out that agp slots are for video cards only. There's also pci, isa, and cnr slots. Most likely you would need a pci sound card, isa slots are outdated tech and won't be found on a newer computer, cnr slots would most likely not be used either.
