New Car.....Help me

Hello everyone, i just turned 16 and I need some help decieding what car to get. I really want a Mustang GT but I live in Wisconsin and as you know there not very good in the winter. So i won't be able to convince them of letting me get one. So does anyone have any suggestions for any cars. Im looking for something with style. I was thinking about getting an Audi S4 or a Subaru WRX ,what do all you guys think? Please give me your suggestions

Hmmm I am in the same boat you're in. I live in Missouri and it snows alot here too. I have 3 mustangs and I am thinking about getting a 4x4 SUV, they are stylish and good in the winter. I am looking for a 94-98 Ford Explorer 4x4 Eddie Bauer Edt. White/Gray twotone. I think any 4 wheel drive car would be your best bet and I heard that the new Subaru WRX can go from 0-60 in 6 or 7 seconds and its 4 wheel drive

I'd either get a pickup or an SUV. But of course, it needs to be 4WD. Don't get a pickup unless it is 4WD. If it's not 4WD, it will be terrible on ice/now since there is just about no weight on the rear tires.

And one thing that makes a world of difference on any car or truck is tires. Make sure you have good all weather tires on it.

My dad has a 2 wheel drive truck and he has to put barrels of water to put more wieght on the rear tires.

Fill your back cab with bags of sand. My stang is parked for the winter and I drive my mom's van in the winter. It ain't 4 wheel drive but I don't really need it, I stick to the roads pretty good (Other then 3 weeks ago when I drove threw some ladies front lawn lol) Depends if you really want a stang you can have it for the summer and drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle in the summer. Also do you want a truck, car or SUV, also you want brand new or do you mind used?

4 wheel drive is highly overrated. All wheel drive, like what's in the Subaru, will decimate just about any 4 wheel drive vehicle around. All wheel drive is superior in just about every conceivable way.

The Mustang GT isn't nearly as bad as you think. It will get you around better than a 4x4 truck if you place Blizzaks on it. For all of those who haven't run Blizzak's, or ridden along in a GT with good Blizzak's and a couple sand bags in the back, don't bother trying to argue this. I have, and let me tell you, the handling of the GT with Blizzak's is way superior, acceleration is on par, ice traction is far better, and the GT is more stable in that configuration. Now adding Blizzak's to the truck would obviously change this, but I'm talking a truck with good truck tires.

In case you're wondering, I've also been in and driven MANY 4x4 trucks. Jeep's, Ford's, Chevy's, Toyota, etc.

I would not suggest a GT to a new driver. Inexpericed driver plus the tendecy to any powerful RWD car to fishtail does not make a good combination.

I just don't see how any tire on a RWD car (with decent power) can out accelerate a 4WD vehicle (with comparable power) on normal all-weather radials? Or if you get your rear tires stuck somewhere, you don't have your front tires to pull you out? I've never driven a Mustang with Blizzaks, or any RWD car with Blizzaks, but I have driven quite a few 4WD vehicles in mud, snow, ice, etc. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I just don't see how a tire could make that much difference. I'm not arguing, or trying to flame, I'm just more curious than anything. What's so special about these tires?

I agree with Unit 5302, he's always lecturing about blizzaks! A mustang with good snow tires (like the blizzaks) will do just fine in the snow, and if you want a mustan i would suggest you get one, just with an extra set of wheels/tires. If you/your parents are averse to you getting a mustang, of your other choices i would vote for the Impreza WRX.

AWD- Automaticaly shifts all the power to the wheel(s) that have the traction. Better for use, on road.

4WD- All the wheels turn with the same speed and same time and dont turn independently. Better use, off road.

blizzaks are great snow tires and may make any rwd car decent in the snow, with an exp. driver. not better than an awd or 4wd anything with at tires though.

awd is usually better suited for snowy and wet conditions, however 4wd will do just as good in snow and much better off road. the only down side to 4wd in snow is you need to make sure there is enough snow (not patchy snow and slush) on the ground to allow the tranfercase it's slippage or else you can cause damage to the 4wd system. although some newer 4wd systems now have the selections to use 4wd in those conditions too. you will see 2wd, part time(or auto) 4wd, full time 4wd, neutral, and 4 lo among your selections.

i would love to see a mustang on blizzaks try to out accelerate a v8 grand cherokee quadra drive in 4" of snow though!!!
