Total newbie question

Ok, first thing - I know nothing about mustangs.

There's a nice black mustang around town, either a 2000 or 2001, that looks like any ordinary stock 'tang except for one thing: It looks like there's an exhaust pipe (or something) in front of the driver's side rear tire. It's rectangular at the opening. I'm just wondering - anyone know what that is? Never seen it before.

Thanks for any info,
- Newbie

Side pipes? Check to see if he still has rear exhaust, I bet not.

No, he doesn't have exhaust in the back. Does this mean he has some kind of different exhaust setup? Is there any functional reason why someone would have their exhaust coming out the side?

The roush mustangs have side exhaust with a square tip. Look at the car alittle closer, it may be a roush mustang or maybe it just has a roush exhaust kit. Its for looks. I was going to get some side pipes for my 89 and when I called to order them I was told they wouldn't be as good as the other kits(straight kits) because of the bents in the pipes, but they do look good. A guy at work had a 68 mustang and had the pipes exiting before the rear tires and it sounded mean(good), it didn't have cats and all.. it didn't have the bents mine would have required. I've never looked at a roush exhaust but I would assume they have more bents in them than the stock pipes.

I've never heard of roush mustangs. What are they exactly, and what kinds of nubmers do they run? I just know I'm going to hit this pony at a red light one day, and I need to know if my setup will stand a chance. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Roush mustangs are along the same line as a Saleen, Steeda, or Kenny Brown mustang. They are shipped to their shop and they add their 'package' to it. The Roush mustangs have been mostly handlings and styling up to this year, a supercharger is now optional. I think they advertised about 10 more hp than stock in the past years because of the performance exhaust(I think it 2.5"). If its one of the new ones with the blower, I'd be careful if I were you http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif. If you want more info on the roush car, they have a site. I think its www.roushperf.com or something to that effect, I'm not real big on them but I have seen all four specialty cars (on the same lot). Just search Roush Mustangs, that should enlighten you. Good luck at the light http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif.

If it's not a Roush it could be a GT with the www.ClassicDesignConcepts.com side exhaust kit. I think their kit has squared tips on the 99-01 models.

Either way i'm sure it looks cool http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Side exhaust makes it possible to run bigger tires in the rear.
