NHL Playoffs

The playoffs have just started and I was curious who everyone is rooting for. I know there are a few Redwings fans out there. I happen to be an Avalanche fan so naturally I hate Redwings fans. I think the Avalanche might have a chance now that Peter Forsberg is back after missing last years playoffs and the entire season. What does everyone else think?

And any other Av's fans out there?

Mach 1 04-17-2002 07:41 PM

Go Penguins! Ooopps, thats right, they didnt make the playoffs for the first time in 12 years, and basically stink as an organization anymore.

Well, since my team didnt make it, I dont really have a favorite. Detroit is hard to root for because they have too much money and can buy all the best players. I guess Ill remain neutral. Would like to see some upsets...should be an interesting year.

RAGE_5.0 04-17-2002 07:50 PM

GO CANADIANS

I am going for the Canadians but i will be happy as long as a Canadian team wins the cup

7up 04-17-2002 09:42 PM

THe red Wings lost!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Tod 04-18-2002 12:34 AM

playoff hockey kicks some major butt. watching the playoffs 2 years ago made me a fan. i usually go for the underdogs so, that's that.

i'd say go Blue Jackets but............

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 01:03 AM

REDWING'S WILL WIN IT. as a wing's fan i hate av's fan's & the star's who didnt make it, i dont think forseberg will help any, roy is a weak link, i wonder if they play the wing's again if he will develop the mystery flu again bwahahaha, mtu50 get in here.:D

7up 04-18-2002 01:07 AM

Now its onnn. Roy a weak link? What???? He carried the Av's all year, he's got the best goals against in the leauge. Forseberg is my favorite player, I just hope he isn't too rusty.

Man,, that would be awesome if Vaqncouver beat the Wings in the first round. Ahhhhh.

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 01:12 AM

im not getting in a flame war, the canuck's will not put the wing's out.that is all. :D

7up 04-18-2002 04:32 AM

tHAT'S COOL, I don't think the Canucks will win, but it would make me happy. Mostly because the wings did so good this year and the Av's didn't do so well. Flame wars suck, but it is fun to root for your team and talk a little bit Sh** along the way.

best goaltender of all time IMO and a lot of other people feel the same way.

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 08:06 AM

no james a lot of sport's reporter's have been saying that all year, that roy is not as good as he was, i know he's a good goalie, but i have seen him lose some weak game's that's all, even hasek has'nt played as good as he did at buffalo, but he has a better team in front of him now, btw the hab's are my second favorite team,:D see ya.

7up 04-18-2002 10:57 AM

Here in Colorado the reporters have been saying this was one of roy's best years years if not his best in the NHL. The Colorado Av's scored the fewest goals in team history this year and still were second in the West. The reason for this; Roy has been amazing, everyone here has him as the best goalie in the league no questions asked.

PKRWUD 04-18-2002 11:09 AM

I've always been a Flyers fan.

Take care,
-Chris

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 12:09 PM

ok 7upyours i admit i dont get the denver paper, granted i hate my cable co. they will hardly show hockey here, my only beef was you wrote, i hate red wing fan's, we = the fan's are not on the ice, most av's fan's i know have the attitude that the av's are hockey god's, like i said -no flame's but to make a statement -i hate red wing fan's, throw's a red flag in my face, i hate the av's, but i have no right to hate the av's fan's, i dont know them all, that was my point, hey pkrwud -my old lady is a flyer's fan, my first live hockey game-1980 -flyer's vs pen's, that's what got me hooked go wing's! :D

7up 04-18-2002 12:27 PM

When I said I hate all Red wings fans i was joking, sorry some times it's hard to convey humor when posting a thread. I don't hate anyone beacuse they root for a certain team, except for Raiders fans. JK.

MTU 50 04-18-2002 12:48 PM

Roy is a Prick! And the second biggest Pu**y in the NHL. Behind Mr. Cluadia "Turtleshell" Lemieux of course. I know Roy is a good goalie, but where was he for team Canada in the olympics? I'm actually glad he wasn't there, because he doesn't deserve to win a gold medal anyway.

As for the Wings. They'll get their sh*t together. They have too much talent and experience not to.

They don't have more money than anybody else. The talented players that the Wings aquired are there because they took a pay cut to be on that team and make a run at the Stanley Cup. This isn't baseball. The Wings aren't the Yankees of Hockey where they outspend everybody 2:1.

mxz 04-18-2002 01:55 PM

Toronto Maple Leafs all the way!!!!!

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 02:12 PM

and my boy =mtu50 to the rescue hel- yeah, we both know the wing's have had a long rest, heheheh, cause we kicked everyone's arse, they alway's start slow in the playoff's , ? who had the last back to back, uuhhmm, thank you, who has won more cup's? btw im a radier's fan also, haha, mtu50 since i sent you the avatar, i can't post it anymore , as a jpeg that suck's so i will try this one -hope it work's,here goes

MTU 50 04-18-2002 02:15 PM

Do you need me to send you the copy you gave me?

Man, that sounds weird.

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 02:23 PM

mtu 50 the one i sent you was too large for my pos pc , crap my other jpeg did'nt work either, the wing's one i sent you has to be 150 x 150 pixel's? , crap i wish my other one had worked, it was the wing's logo with two hand's flying out shooting bird's , heheh, we own roy, & his mystery flu he get's when he has to play the wing's , even little ozzy kicked his azz in a fight, bwahahaha, later.:D :D

1969Mach1 04-18-2002 02:28 PM

GO MAPLE LEAFS GO!

We play the Islanders tonight and we're going to kick some *****. I think we're going to go to atleast the Semi-Finals.

Crazy Horse GT 04-18-2002 02:41 PM

This shows your lack of hockey knowledge. It is widely accepted and well known that the Red Wings are one of the wealthiest teams in the league, and have one of the highest payrolls in the league as well.

7up 04-18-2002 05:19 PM

Here's a nice little piece from ESPN on ROY. Saying this was his best year and he is a favorite to win MVP of the league. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/preview?gameId=220418017

95mustanggt 04-18-2002 07:00 PM

who cares...

The Oilers are out. They are my team.

And EVERYONE who knows anything about hockey has to agree that the best series in the playoffs is the Stars vs. the Oilers. Hands down, the best.

Roy is a baby. I dislike like his attitude, however he is a very talented goaltender.

Ponygirl67 04-18-2002 11:33 PM

Have the Canucks EVER won the stanley cup????? I dont think so, but I am not a hard cord hockey fan...I love the playoffs though and we are going to the top boys.....GO CANUCKS GO!!!!!:D :D

HiFlow5 0 04-18-2002 11:49 PM

BRUINS, BRUINS, BRUINS, but they will probably be knocked out in the first round again. So I'll have to fall back on my second favorite team, the AV's!

Maybe compared to the other teams they do have more money, but that wasn't really my point anyway. In hockey you can't buy the Stanley Cup . It just doesn't work like other sports or at least it hasn't yet.

The New Jersey Devils won the cup in 2000 with a mid-level payroll and Colorado's payroll wasn't exceedingly high until after they won the cup last year and gave Sakic, Roy, and Blake big contracts. A big payroll in the NHL doesn't mean that you will win.

That is why I drew the parallel with the yankees. The Red Wings are not the Yankees of hockey. Yes, they probably do have more money than a lot of teams, but they are an original six, are in a huge market for hockey, have been sucessful the last decade, which means the Joe has been sold out for god knows how long, and that gives them more money to spend. They spend the money by rewarding players such as Yzeerman, Lidstrom, Federov, Shanahan, and others for the hard work and grit they have put into the team. Those players weren't just big name free agents when Detroit won in 97' and 98' who signed on that year to try and "buy" the cup. Yzerman, Federov, and Lidstrom had been on the wings for a while and deserved the money they have gotten. And I'm pretty sure they didn't get the big bucks until after they won the cup.

I'll say it again. A big payroll doesn't guarantee you get to take lord Stanley out waterskiing in Manitoba in the summer, or back home to your European country of birth, or whatever you chose to do with your day with the cup. Teamwork, Skill, Luck, and good ole' fashion grit your teeth Hockey does. And if the Wings are fortunate enough to win this year it will be for those reasons and not $ the$e $.

Mach 1 04-19-2002 07:36 AM

well, I agree with some of what your saying. Yes, teams havent been able to buy the cup, but Detroit certainly seems to be trying. Along with the rangers. The rangers have failed miserably. The wings have been successful for many years now, and were a good team before they started signing big money free agents.

However, this doesnt take away from the fact that they have a huge payroll and can aquire a lot of players that other teams cant afford to pay, Hasek being a good example.

A lot of people tend to root for the team that can get it done with a lower payroll, and less big name stars. Im not trying to take anything away from the wings. they are a great team, and have great coaching and management.

But you cant deny they have large dollars and pay a lot of "veterans" large money that other teams dont have the luxery of doing. Does this mean they will win the cup automatically? Of course not, but it certainly isnt going to hurt thier chances.

no, hel- no but that dont mean i dont like you, im a radier's fan also, i just hate that denver greater than thou attitude, i hate the av's & i hate the bronco's , but that doesnt mean i hate you, so let's just agree to disagree, it really dont matter, if the wing's or the av's or the shark's win the cup, our light bill wont be cheaper, we will still have to go to work, our car ins. isnt going to get cheaper, that's what i'm saying , it's just sport's, life move's on.peace on ;) :)

Does the water in Omaha destroy brain cells? Oh wait, of course it does. I should know that after reading your informative post.

No Sh*t. He is a good goalie. I admitted that. I like it how Roy lost a fight to little 5' 9" Mike Vernon. Lost badly I might add. And then he tied in a fight with Osgood, who is another little guy. I wasn't comparing him with Hasek either. I'll take Terry Sawchuk in his prime over Roy in his prime any day of the week! Theres your Roy comparison with a Red Wings goalie.

I hope you were joking about the Lemieux thing, because if you weren't your a moron, plain and simple. Don't get me going again about that panzie. I don't know many people, even Colorado fans, that will actually defend him.

Crazy Horse GT 04-19-2002 04:26 PM

hahahaha, corn is in the way , go king's, we know they are tough, & who traded them two of their best player's, uuuhhh jeeezz the av holes. bwahahaha, better dig ray dork back up:rolleyes: :D :D :D

1995,1996,Detroit 62 wins. Western Conf Finals. Colorado 4 games to 2, Colorado Stanley Cup Champs.

1998,1999.Colorado 4 to 2

1999/2000 Colorado 4 to 1

2001/2002 Vancouver vs Detroit 2 games to 0,

If Im not mistaken Roy was going to kick(Hasek a** but he cant even skate he looked like Michelle Kawn floping on the Ice)He was a great pick up )

Now Oct 17 th 2000 Terry Swachuk record fell, Oct 17th the new Saint Patricks Day.

April 20th 2003 ever member of the Detroit RedWings will be eligible for social security and the seinor discount at the Sizzler.:D

Crazy Horse GT 04-20-2002 12:52 PM

hahaha, now you know why i hate the av's, i wasnt flaming just joking, beside's isnt it a fact, that every team that has won the president's cup has never won the stanley. true! im not worried yet, but dont take the king's lightly either, look what they did to the wing's last year, if the wing's get put out, so be it, i will root for the hab's or, the hawk's, but you can bet this, the av's are the bottom of my list, social security, = ray bourqe, lighten up man it's only sport's:rolleyes:

Lmao! Aint that the truth. I love it when older teams who try to "buy" the cup NOW, instead of rebuilding around youth, or a mixture of youth and veterans lose so badly like the wings are doing now.

Look at Hasek....hes played like CRAP! The 8 Million dollar man..lmao...sorry wings...your going DOWN!

Spend your money more wisely next time.

Crazy Horse GT 04-20-2002 01:05 PM

it's ok they have some good young talant coming up, fischer, datsuk, etc, it aint no big deal so all you boy's just rav on, hey i like the raider's, but im not whining about that lousy call in the pat's game. there is life after sport's, who traded & bought the cup last year?

note to self, now i hate the av's even more than the star's, eddie's better:D

When you get right down to it, a lot of teams try to buy championships, including the Av's.

The NFL is the only leauge that got it right with the salary cap.

Crazy Horse GT 04-20-2002 01:31 PM

amen to that mach1:D

geno5.0 04-20-2002 01:40 PM

:) Mach 1 you are right. In the NHL Money is a HUGE factor.
But no one uses more than Detroit . If you look behind the players at the next Detroit game you will see what company I run/ Manage I was Involved Some what with that Sponsorship.
Trust me They Go All Out on funds for their players.

I will say this the Redwings do have a good Business and after our talks with them.
I will say that is what it is"a buisness"!
Ps: We also sponsor the Bluejackets. Look at their Zamboni.:D

Bettman's position on the next deal with the Player's Association sounds as though we will have a salary cap in the NHL.

Me being another Oilers boy, and then missing the playoffs, leaves me to cheer for the Canucks. They're one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs and the Wings are the opposite. 2-0 now - hopefully it won't go more than 5 games. After that I like Phoenix in the West. In the East, if the Bruins don't go far I will be surprised, they are the highest scoring team in the NHL. I would like to see Ottawa make it past the first round for once but they're down a game already :(

If a Canadian team makes it to the finals I'll probably **** myself, but I don't really care cause the hometown guys aren't there :(

red82gt 04-20-2002 01:59 PM

VANCOUVER CANUCKS Vs TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS The first All-Canadian final since 1989!
My favorite team is Calgary, and their one of the teams struggling because of the deep pockets of teams like Detroit AND Colorado, both those teams spend money like water. Then there's the Rangers, they've gotta be the biggest joke in sports today!

I never said or insinuated that I was better than you because I've been around longer. I don't think that way.

I got a little hot under the collar, because of your Draper comment. It didn't appear as though you were joking, and I still can't tell if your serious about that or not. If you think Draper deserved that and Lemieux wasn't hiding from payback and acting like a little girl, then yes, I think that your a moron. You might not be, but after reading that comment, it sure appears that way. Lemieux wasn't even man enough to admit he felt bad about what happened.

Would you also defend what McSorely did to Brashear? I'm all for tough hockey, fights, and rough checking, but not for dirty play.
