NHL playoffs - part II

heheh, Red Wings win a real tough game, result's - moving on baby, uhh, so sorry AV's, bwahahahahaha,. I told you the L.A. Kings were tough - they wiped us out last year. My hat is off to the canuck's great team, hab's won today, my 2nd fav team, it's been a great day, & ain't Patty looked like crap,.
heheh :D :D :D

7up 04-28-2002 03:48 AM

Yeah yeah yeah... The exact same thing happened last year. The Av's were up 3-1 in the series and the Kings forced a game 7 where the Av's kicked the crap out of em. Then went on to win the cup. It looks like Detroit finally got their stuff together. I really hope Colorado and Detroit end up playing each other, it will be great.

Crazy Horse GT 04-28-2002 08:13 AM

yeah it will be a war, did you catch the canes-devil's game, man that was a great game,it was a war too, i dont get to watch many of the games , but every chance i get i do, the sen's handed the flyer's their head, even though philly played a good first period, i also dont think the shark's, or the blues are going to be a cakewalk,l8ter:)

7up 04-28-2002 07:38 PM

I haven't gotten to watch many other games besides the Av's-Kings. I just don't have the time for all this hockey. I'm not even sure I'll be able to see all of the Avs game tomorrow. I have managed to see parts of some of the other games, like the first period of the last Red Wings game. Besides that I have just seen bits and pieces of some of the games.

Go Av's. I think I'm gonna cry if the Av's lose tomorrow.

Mach 1 04-29-2002 11:10 AM

How about all the fighting in this years playoffs? Its great! Normally, the fighting goes away in the post season, as the goons keep the gloves on and teams dont want to risk penalties. Not this year! Im loving it. Let the blood flow.

You gotta love the NHL, the only sport where fighting is allowed.

7up 04-29-2002 12:37 PM

There have been a lot more fights this year, especially at the end of games when it doesn't matter if a player gets kicked out. I caught the end of the Toronto-NY game last night and two fights broke out with about two minutes left. One guy insisted on fighting this guy who didn't want to fight and he got his butt kicked. (Sorry I can't remember their names). Then all the fans threw everything they ahd on the ice and into the penalty box.

Where were you last year for the Dallas\Edmonton series?

They just about started disemboweling each other on the ice.... ;)

I don't think I've ever seen as much animocity in a series before...

By the way, WHAT HAPPENED TO MY STARS!? (sniff...)

Mach 1 04-29-2002 05:48 PM

Im usually following the east. But my teams out of it this year, so Im watching more of everything.

Did you see that check Webb put on Garret?( I think those were the names) It was along the boards, it was in the 3rd period, it was clean, and he LEVELED him. It was sweet.

Yeah, and the Toronto player(Corson) that wanted to fight at the end did get his butt kicked. That was pretty cool too. The Habs - Boston game 5 was real good too. Theodore was a brick wall. It was great.

I have a hunch that Colorado is going to get it together for game 7 and do what they did last year. It seems like time for Sakic to get a goal, and I wouldn't be surprised if roy comes up big.( I still hate him though :p )

I love the NHL playoffs, although this week is the busiest week of the semester for me, so I might have to miss a few games.

Crazy Horse is brilliant....

Anyone who likes the Red Wings and the Raiders must be brilliant. After all, I too love those two teams. Crazy Horse, my pops played for the Silver and Black in the 60's that brings me even closer to that team.

Got to luv dem RAIDAHS>>>>>Go wings...... Go Kings...

The Raiders are my second favorite NFL team. Unfortunately, The Detroit Lions are my favorite. Gotta agree with ya on the Red Wings though.

I hope your right man, they can't score for anything right now. Another scoreless period 0-0 after the first, Sakic missed the net twice on two very good chances. Auuhhhhhg.

Man I seriously hate ythe Raiders. Of course I am a Bronco fan and pretty much all Bronco fans hate the Raiders around here. We did get Sharpe back this year though, all we need now is for Elway to come out of retirement. :D

I must say that I appreciate the Bruncos 7up. I think they have a sound foundation and a great coach. I hate them, but I repect what they have done.

I am stoked that the most hated, dirty, nasty, player the Broncos have had in recent memory is now a RAIDAH...

ROMANOWSK:mad: I!!!!!

I can't wait.....

Till then I have to get back to the game. How are the Ave doing, hope they take it on the chin.

That's cool your man enough to admit you respect the Broncos. I don't think I'm quite man enough to say the same about the Raiders.

Shanahan is a freakin genius, I love that guy. He also has a passion for hating the Raiders. I am glad the Raiders lost Gruden I really hated that guy.

The Radiers can have Romanowski, he didn't do anything last year, except get himself and his wife indicted(spelling?) for buying prescription drugs illegally. He's getting old and has lost a few steps. He will fit in with the Raiders perfectly. :D

7up 04-29-2002 10:15 PM

3-0, just like last year when it was 5-1 in game 7

COOL, I remember last year everyone laughed when the Raiders picked up J Rice. Too old/past his prime/can't play/add your own slam here. Turned out OK for the Silver and Black. Romanowski has lost a step. However he is a character and he is nasty. You will hate him by the end of he season like I did since he left the bay area.

BTW what was Shanahan (Pat Bowlen) thinking by drafting another running back early in the draft. The guy might turn out to be a great back but don't they already have three average - great backs. I think the writing is on the wall for one of the veteran Denver RB's.

LATE

7up 04-29-2002 10:43 PM

I guess you can never have too many great running backs. Although I don'y think Mike Anderson is a great running back. IMHO, His success his first year was attributed to the offensive line, last year he did not do well. Davis hasn't proven he can stay healthy the last three years and Gary broke his leg last year.

I just hope Griese can prove to be a good quarterback. So far he hasn't been a leader and he has choked in big game situations.

elliotness 04-29-2002 10:59 PM

I don't think you should be concerned about Griese. He has had problems staying healthy. He has taken alot of punishment. I think that is Denver's problem. They have allowed their offensive line to deteriorate (sp.). I think must teams could live with the RB's that they have even when you consider the injuries (Davis, Gary and Anderson). What is puzzling to me is that many teams approached the Broncos about acquiring Anderson and the Broncos would not budge. It seemed that they would keep their existing platoon of RB's. Then they take Portis

Why?

I think they will release one of the backs that they have. Which again seems sensless. Why didn't they trade one of the backs when everyone was interested?

I'm sure there is a plan. It just doesn't seem like they have done what they needed to do to get back to being dominant like they were a few years back.

Not to mention that they have only one CB, and he is overrated.

7up 04-29-2002 11:12 PM

Yeah, it seemed pretty stupid not to trade one of their backs last year. Especially when they only had one good receiver in Rod Smith after McCaffrey broke his leg.

Defense has always been a serious question with the Broncos since the Orange Crush back in the seventies. Itwould be nice if they could have a mediocre secondary instead of a horrible one.

By the way, Av's 4, Kings 0.

Yeah they did pull it off and I was very happy last night. Your right Nothing is going to be easy. San Jose had the same amount of points as the Av's this year, the Av's had one more win so they got the second seed. St. Louis was only one point behind in the standings. It is amazing how close things were this year, besides the red Wings.

Not many people seem to like Roy do they? Oh well, when he's on your team you love him.

Crazy Horse GT 04-30-2002 03:18 PM

i guess your right about roy, but im saying that the cane's have got that huge goalie week's, man he impressed me in the game against the devil's, that guy was stopping shot's he couldnt even see, & theodore or whatever his name is[ i probably misspelled it ]
for the hab's has been awesome, hey they snapped off boston - # 1 seed even after the dirty hit on zednick, imo this years playoff's have been the best in a long time, if the wing's lose, im going with montreal, even though, i am not that much of a eastern div fan, good luck, i hope our boy's meet for the western final's, l8ter;) wayne campbell voice[ game on].:D

A Hockey Story

My friend sent me this and I thought it would be relevant to this subject. :D

Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in a Denver suburb,
when one is viciously attacked by a Rottweiler. Thinking
quickly, the other boy takes his hockey stick, wedges it
down into the dog's collar and twists, immobilizing,
stunning and rendering the dog unconscious.

A reporter who was passing by sees the incident and rushes
over to interview the boy.

He starts writing in his notebook, "Young Avalanche Fan
Saves Friend From Brutal Dog Attack."

"But I'm not an Avalanche fan," the little hero said.

The reporter replied, "Sorry but since we are in Denver, I
just assumed you were".

He starts over ... "Little Bronco Fan Rescues Friend From
Horrific Attack."

The boy stopped him again saying, "I'm not a Bronco fan,
either".

"Well," said the reporter, "I assumed everyone in Denver was
either for the Avalanche or the Broncos." "What team DO you
root for?"

The boy replies, "I'm a Red Wings fan".

The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook: "Little
Bastard From Detroit Kills Beloved Family Pet"

hehehe

Actually. Stupid Reporter for sensationalizing and causing trouble. But it doesn't matter anyway, because it was a fictional story.

I have a feeling this story mirrors what happens in real life though. Without opening wounds about the Lemieux-Draper incident, I remember one of Denver's talksports radio personalities coming on WDFN, the local Detroit sports radio show, after the incident and the payback occured. Anyway, the guy was a jacka**. All he wanted to do was stir up trouble and be a prick. There was no rationalizing with him. So, our sports guys just make him look the donkey's rear end that he was. It was great.

I know all Colorado fans aren't like that, but I think it was easy for them to get caught up in this guys "self-serving" message.

Scotty is a cool, calm guy in the publics eye, but don't mess with him. I'm sure the reporter deserved it, but since I haven't heard any details, I'm just making a general asumption.

Yeah, Burke was whinning up a storm.

I liked the way the Wings got under Betuzzi's skin and he hit back hard. Thats the way it should be. Grind away at each other and see who wins the battles. Betuzzi is huge, but I think it would take a mack truck to stop Chelios from dusting himself off and getting back up again.

That is the image he portrays, but dont be fooled. I lived in Pittsburgh during the cup years and Bowmans years there, and I heard some ex-players and media types flat out say Scotty Bowman is an major A--hole. And they said it on TV, so they were passionate about thier remarks, enough to try to let it be known to other people who have no personal dealings with Scotty himself. His actions reinforce that theory. This isnt the first times he done something stupid, and it probably wont be the last.

Okay. I qualified my statement by adding "in the public eye". Happy. I didn't put him up for saint hood or say he doesn't get emotional, however, for the most part in public and behind that bench he doesn't usually let his emotions get the best of him.

When Crawford coached the avalanche 3 years ago and was leaning over the plexi-galss seperater and blowing his top right in Scotty's face, Scotty just stood there and did nothing. I think he then said something along the lines of "Mark, I don't think your father would approve of your behavior" in a normal fairly emotionless face. It was something like that(its been 3 years and my memory is filled with engineering equations at the moment) and I think it was because Scotty knew Marks dad from back in the day. That made Crawford even more mad, because Scotty was right in the fact that Crawford was being disrespectful by swearing at the opposing teams coach and insulting him. I'm pretty sure he apologized to Scotty too.

I don't know. All I was saying is that he is calm most of the time and defintely in front of the public. I'm sure he can get fired up in the dressing room though.

I know reporters have a job to do, but I can picture myself going Bobby Knight on some of the more brain dead ones.

I agree 100% with that, however, from listening to people who have had professional and personal relationships with him, he is an A--hole.
So now when he has altercations with people, I can no longer give Bowman the benefit of the doubt, as there have been confirmations from insiders that he is indeed an A--hole.

I believe it, you dont have too.

One day, not two. And I guess its just the way the scheduling worked out. They probably started the playoffs on the second day and this is how the cards fell. I am curious on how that system works, but I don't have time to investigate.
