NHRA legal helmet, what do I need?

I'll be goin to indianapolis raceway park this weekend to the first test and tune of the year (weather permitting).
The last time I was there, the track was slippery and I was running high 13's. He told me to get a helmet or slow down. haha, yah right like I'm gonna TRY to slow down:)

Anyway, I knew that I've needed a helmet for a while but they've never said anything so I'm gonna take one this weekend.
What do I need? will any DOT approved helmet work?
What about a motorcross helmet? a close friend has a few, one of which I could borrow.

I know I shouldn't skimp on safety but once my car is where I'd like it to be (streetable mid 11's) then I'll go all out with the safety equipment.

so what kinda helmet do I need and if I need to buy one, where should I look?
thanks guys (and gals)

you need a Snell 95 helmet (13.99 or quicker)

whats a good place to get one and about how much are they?

I just thumbed through summit lookin at them. Is snell95 just the certification of the liner? thats what it seems like from the catalog.

My friend will let me borrow his street motorcycle helmet (not the motorcross guy) , that should be certified right?

any motorcycle shop. approx $100-$125.

MAKE SURE IT SAYS SNELL 95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, they rate helmets every five years, so I would get an SA2000 (not just a 5 year old sa95). There is also a difference between M95 (Motorcycle) and SA95 (Autoracing) ratings. Then there is the whole Nomex fire retardent issue for autoracing...

p.s. (shameless plus) You can get them HERE...

Where they check for the snell rating is on the inside of the helmet. I just went to a motorcycle shop and got one for 110 bucks that was snell 2000. When U buy one or borrow it make sure that u look inside of the helmet under the padding for the snell sticker. That is what the NHRA offical will be looking for.

Here in houston, at HRP, they only look to see if you have any kind of helmet when you run 13.00-13.99.
