No more Camaro

I'm sure most of you know the Camaro is dead. GM shut down production for good, and I want to know your opinions on the loss of america's second favorite musclecar. I think it's definitely a bad thing, for maybe due to lack of competition in the domestic rear drive V8 market the Mustang will rot.

Actually I feel sad for the demise or the F-Bodies. And I would buy that Last/Special Edition Camaro with the stripes and stuff. Camaros and Firedbirds Were among the few great AFFORDABLE sports cars and it truly is sad that they are coming to an end

I have also heard rumors about the camaro comming back in like 2004 or later and it will be a V-6 front wheel????

one of the magazines, i forget which (motor trend, car and driver, one of those) had GM sketches of what the next "camaro" was going to look like. the rumor i heard was that it was cheaper for them to shut down the product line for those cars, and retool for a much improved newer design, than it was for them to bbuy and build a new factory for the new line. The f-body is extremely outdated. a friend bought a 2001.(traitor). after one year it squeaks, rattles, has had two major engine problems. i think it was just time for them to crumple up the paper and start from scratch. just wait....the new car will be a 350, 6 speed standard, that handles like a viper, accelerates like a crotch rocket, and stops like it threw out an anchor. then Ford will have to revamp the stang to keep up again, and the flame wars will spark right back up.

If u read about GM right now, you'll find out that all there sales are dropping, and they are scared it might lead to Bankruptcy. The SSR pickup is something new to help try to bring ppl back to Chevy, but also keep the HP freaks from leaving and going to Ford(which is better anyway). The Camaro was shut down only to make it more desirable when it makes a new Debut in 2004.
It's smart in a way to stop selling a car, before it gets dry. When it comes back out(they say 2004, but I think it will be later) all the ppl who have Camaros now, will want the new ones, and everyone that wanted one while they wern't built, will buy one. It makes something desirable, when ppl can't get it.

I seen a chart the other day that said GM was #1 in sales world wide last year.

When I read the article in motor trend, they said the 2005 camaro would rival the '69 Z. Production will halt as of July 2002, when the plants all shut down for 2 weeks for setup of next years lines. At the time of the article, they did not show a pic, they said it had not been released.
They said production will start back in july of 2004, for the 2005 models.;)

If they build another one it won't be as strong as the present one unless it is alot more expensive. Looks to me like they are trying to get away from V8 cars except for the corvette and cadillacs, both expensive. The cavalier and sunfire will get faster they also have a pontiac solstice that is a 4 cyl supercharged rear wheel drive car that would compete with any thing in it's price range. They killed the big block in street cars and it looks like the high performance small block V8's will be next. Maybe all companies will be limiting horsepower in sub $30,000 cars to 276hp no matter what the engine type(like the japanese do) and they don't have to use a 300 plus cube V8 to do it. 3 litre V6's are putting out 240hp nowadays. Chevy also has a prototype Belair that would compete with the new T-bird it has rear wheel drive with a straight 5 cylinder engine. They are planning 6,5, and 4 cylinder versions of the inline 4.2 6cylinder in the trailblazer.

Im glad the camaro and T/A are being dropped.

Just two more pieces of GM garbage that wont be littering up the highways.

Bad for competition? I think not. Thats a joke, right?

The camaro has been faster than the mustang for a long time now, does Ford care? No.

There is no competition there anyway. The stang is a better car (although slower) and sales prove it.

Its up to Ford to make things happen with the mustang, if they cant do it without competition driving them, then they have no passion for the car and should just quit making it as well.

Thats weird, not what I heard. Oh well, I could be wrong. But u might want to check the bottom corner, does it say it was made by GM, and the other sales were their cars vs pig sales and other livestalk?
