Odd Rice question

Ok so we all know that some of these cars can make impressive power for a four banger if they're built and have power adders and stuff. 99% of these cars are also front wheel drive. As stangers one of the first mods most of us make is gears with out worrying about power.

First ? is if ricer ( i.e. Civics, Integra's, typical rice not a Supra or anything like that) cars could swap gears in the front end (man that sounds wierd) would they be competitive with a Mustang with mods and most especially gears.

Second ? is why do these ricer guys worry about all the power when 99% also cant put it to the ground since they cant have the gear. I may be way out of line here. If I am let me know, I'll shut up.

Most of them street race, and they think the faster they can go(top speed), that they will win. Most don't worry about low end speed, they think that when u tach out, then They pass u at 130 MPH, that they won the race. Most don't understand the whole Quater mile thing.

The weight transfer launching a front wheel drive car is just fundamentally wrong - it transfers the weight to the non-drive wheels and lightens up the front. Even with gears there's only so much power you can put down without burning the tires, which we all know costs some serious ET. Try launching your stang in reverse .

most of the time the people that own v-tech hondas and acuras and so on want to race punches b/c they know they can not hook up and from a punch turbocharged hondas are pretty fast but its funny u talk to like 9-10 of the honda owners that go street racing and ask what they have done to there car they will tell u exhaust and intake like thats going to really do anything!

They have the weight of the engine and transaxle on the drive wheels. They have to stiffen the rear suspension so that the weight doesn't transfer to the rear. And yes they can change gear ratios.

Don't forget that they need huge wings on the back to add maximum down force on the rear. They want to transfer as little weight to the rear as possible. Oh wait, that doesn't really make sense does it. :p

Can't say much about other fwd cars, but most hondas come stock with 4.xx final drives. The gear ratio is already optimized for performance, just lacking the power in stock form.

Inferno beat me to it. But alot of the Import cars do have some pretty deep gears on them already.

They need to as they don't have the torque to use anything else. Good thing they can rev high.

Man that is interesting. Shows how much I know about ricers, Oh yeah I forgot I dont care. I was just curious. I really didnt realize there was a gear swap available for these cars. My buddy has a Accord in stock trim (he hates the ricer crowd but needs something nice for for his ol' lady and something a little more dependable) and its realitively fast for stock front wheel drive 4 door with all the goodies. I was just wondered. Thanks Guys.
