I agree, but that type of solution is not within the allowable parameters for the solution of the puzzle. Remember what he said:

This, to me, implies that the solution must be on at least the same continuous surface, which is why I considered a sphere or a cylinder. It will, however, work on the surface of a torus, but I think that also falls outside of the allowable parameters for an acceptable solution.
