Default Gear shifting problematic trans or clutch?

My 1990 LX 5.0 has 82,000 mostly highway miles on it. Lately, it's been hard to get into gear; sometimes shift into 2nd from 1st, third from second, etc. (sometimes grinds too) does not seem like the syncros would be bad. do you think it is the clutch? would just a shifter change help? naturally looking for the cheapest thing to try first. any help appreciated. thanks. btw, everything still completely stock.

cheapest thing would be try adjusting the clutch cable.
If the quadrant is still stock all you have to do is pull up on the clutch pedal. Listen for a click, that means it adjusted to the next level

Default Gear shift problem

thanks. I am considering a Dynomax cat back system. Which mufflers do you have? are you happy with them? thanks

I have the super turbos
they are pretty nice, have a deep rumble but aren't too loud, they also roar pretty good at WOT.
if you have the stock H-pipe with cats they will be really quiet.

If I were to buy another system and had a little more money I would probably get the Ultra Flos. Stainless if you have the money
