Post Convertible Top Quote... Ouch!!!

I talked to a local upholstery shop this morning. They want 1100 bucks to put a new top on my 65. Maybe I was living in a fantasy land, but this is about twice what I was thinking it would cost. I know this will vary between different parts of the country, but I though south MS would be at the low end of the scale. Has anybody else had this done? Would you mind sharing what it cost you? I've heard this is not a job for a beginner, but at 300 bucks for parts I could screw up the first 2 and still save money.
