Painted my 85 lx conv.
I hope I don't get flamed to bad. My new Stang is a lowrider. It's a 85 lx conv. w/V6. I painted it Candy Apple red with a red flake. Just so you know my other car is an 03 Cobra so don't be to harsh. Here is a link to my Garage on an other forum.

Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
Paint looks good. It's fun to have a 'stang that's not just dedicated to speed. I'm making my 2.3L LX a fun drivable car that i can take the t-tops off and cruise - that's cool having a drop top stang that looks nice.
My only criticizm is that the red has a little too much flake for my taste and i don't like the wheels (i've never liked wire wheels and the offset is a bit far out). It kind of looks like a bass boat-roller skate :p , i'm just givin you a hard time. I think it does look good, keep on doing what you like - that's the whole point of owning a stang. |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
Thats all right I've had people tell me it looks like a motorcycle helmet on another forum. But here in lowrider country it sure gets a lot of attention, especially from the girls. Must be a southwest thing.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little

Before you get to upset with me having a lowrider take a look at my other car. Just click at the bottom of my sig where it says "my car". |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
I'm not upset, just don't understand it.

Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
It's just a different way of fixing up a car . the lowriding scene has been popular in the southwest since i was a kid. late 60's early 70's. I enjoy all types of cars I have my Cobra for speed I have a 59 Chevy apache pu I am working on hot rod style ( big block redone susp., mean rake), and I have a 51 2dr ht plymouth I am redoing leadslead style.
http://racingsouthwest.com/forums/in...DE=12&CID=1081 I don't put down anything I don't like or understand. Everyone has their own reason to do things the way they like. |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
My son likes it. Hey if it gets girls that is really the only thing that maters. If it wasn't for women guys like us wouldn't do 90% of the stuff we do.

Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
I would say from the outset that I'm not a fan of "low riders". Great big metal flakes in the paint don't inspire me either. But it's not my car, and I think it should be built to make the owner happy.
I'm sure there are many who abhor the way I've built mine. I've drilled a hundred holes in the chassis to install the stuff that I want in it. It has after market almost "everything" and the only thing original about it is the engine block and the body. I like the way my car is, and that's all that counts. I'm assuming that's true for frmula 505 as well. Rev |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
I am with Rev on this one. Never even thought about resale for my car or what others thought. I have left very little stock on the car, including the engine and trans.
I am not a fan of the wheels, but I think it looks like a nice paint job. It is still Ford and not a Ricer which is another plus to me. As far as I am concerned, he was smarter then me cause he painted it so the girls would like it. I think my car has gotten the interest of a very small amount of women. It has been my experience women just love convertibles period. Ryan |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
So...does it bounce?
*imagines a few top heavy "co-pilots" along for the ride* :D |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
Sorry doesn't bounce. The suspension hasn't been modified. And I had a Mitsubishi truck with hydro's a few years back. It would get fun once you start with the bouncing.

As much as you may not want to hear it, it looks terrible. If I saw it on the street, I would point and laugh. The paint is hideous and the wheels are straight out of the ghetto. But, it is not my car, so it doesnt really matter if I like it. While I do like your cobra, you really ruined that fox.
And as you requested in the original post, here are the pics for anyone else who wants to see it. |
Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
Thats ok everyone has an opinion. But I dont see how I ruined it. My brother owns a paint shop, so my cars get painted as often as I want. I got maybe $150 in paint invested. As for the wheels I had them in my garage from about 5 or 6 years ago. It's just a slow v6 summer toy. By next spring it will be a compeatly different car. Who knows what look I will go for then.

Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
Lowriders are realy big around northern New Mexico. You really wouldn't believe all the compliments I've gotten on the paint job. They far outnumber the few negative comments I've gotten. I'm sure a lot of people hate it but thats ok my opinion is the only one that matters to me.

Re: Painted my 85 lx conv.
