Paypal is a good method to use. Very good. It will give you a transaction record, and the payment could be eligible for Federal Wire Fraud protection.

I'm happy with the speed and security that PayPal has given me.

If the seller has PayPal, just ask him to e-mail you a request for payment. Follow the instructions in the e-mail.

If he doesn't belong to PayPal, he may not want to use PayPal, this is something you will have to ask him/her.

I agree. Paypal is an excellent way to pay for online transactions. You can pay instantly and get fraud protection too! However some sellers wont accept it due to the 2.9% fee they charge. If its a small item, that doesnt add up to much. But only getting $971 for a $1000 item kinda sucks IMO.

Most sellers will because credit card companies like VISA also charge for use of their services, which isn't much more than Paypal's service.

I was speaking from the standpoint of an individual who doesnt accept any credit cards. I have never sent a business money via paypal.

Paypal is easy and safe to use! I've used it quite a few times! Good luck!

Yep, that I can agree with. I accepted my first payment of over some nominal amount which forced me to become a Premier Member and I was charged a percentage. That bit, and I was ticked, but in the grand scheme of things, it was better knowing no check was going to bounce and I had the money right away.

PayPal rocks! I have been involved with over 550 eBay auctions where I either won or was the seller, and most of them were handled through PayPal. I also used it this morning for something non eBay related. I now have over 600 songs on my iPod, and want to hardwire it to my stereo in my truck, but require an adapter since it is a Sony stereo. They aren't available anywhere, but I hooked up with a guy in Pa. that has one, and I was able to use PayPal to pay for it. Not only does that help insure my money, but it means it will ship out to me first thing Monday, which means I'll have it sooner. PayPal rocks!

Take care,
-Chris

Well SRV, I have never been ripped off before so I dont know all the exact details but I will tell you what I know. (or think I know)
1. If you send this guy money via paypal for merchandise and you dont receive it you will get your money back from paypal. They will go after him and try and get their money back. Furthermore, if you are using a credit card you might have buyers protection there too.
I dont have the online credentials that Chris has got, but I have been invloved in about 60 ebay transactions, and about 20 non-ebay/internet classifieds deals. I think you will find that the majority of the people are honest. Its the people like this CT5.0 character that 2fastLX is dealing with that give internet transactions a bad name.
Hope this helps

PayPal will refund your money IF he is a Verified member. It will say next to his name when you fill out the send money form.

Take care,

Talking Pay Pal is the BEST!!!!!

Hi SRV(long time no hear from...hahahahah)!!
I've done about 55 transactions off ebay and used PayPal on about half of them. ITS GREAT!!! They get thier money, you get your item ASASP!!!
I would think if there was ANY problem w/ the shipment and he bailed on you, just dispute the charges thru your CC company. It would be a pita...,but, I bet it would not be a problem. I havent really checked into it, but like ANY CC transaction, they can be distputed!!!!!
Good luck and I hope you get your speedo...i know how long you've been looking for one!!!!! cya' later!!!!! Topless

I didnt know you could use pay-pal outside of e-bay. How does one go about this? I didnt see anything about selling or buying outside of e-bay on the pay-pal web site?

Me either...but if you can , If Pay Pal was the one to do it I would think that that would be a good way to do it. They should resolve any 'problems' that would come up, if there was one. ie: giving yur money back for a deal gone wrong???? Interesting!

Read all about it: PayPal. When you go to send money to someone, you are asked what kind of transaction it is, and the choices include Service, Goods - Auction, Goods - Non-Auction, and Quasi-cash. If you have an account, and someone else has an account, and you want to sell them something, you can pay through PayPal, no eBay required! Pay Pal is completely independent of eBay. In fact, eBay has their own service called BillPoint, that competes with PayPal.

Take care,
-Chris

SRV
Anyone with a credit card can become a member, but a Verified member is one who has also listed their bank account information with PayPal, as well as confirmed their address (usually with a utility bill). If the member is Verified, then PayPal will guarantee that the transaction will be completed.

Take care,
-Chris
