The Mustang 5.0 owned the streets in the late 80's early 90's.

Cool

Not even close back then - even stock the Stangs were wiping the streets w/ z28's. It's a different game now....we just have to work a little harder

From the muscle car inception till the mid 90's, the mustang beat the camaro in speed and sales. Now, the camaro is conciderably faster, but has the horrible GM quality.

I don't know, back in the mid 70's the land of Mustang II's it was hard to beat the top of the line F body's. I would say the F body maintained the advantage clear to 85. From 85-92 I'd have to say the Mustang was the car to beat, but it's an entirely different story starting in 93. Before, it was always close, but it's sad to say how badly the F body waxxed the stock Mustang's until the 96 Cobra.

blu95sho:

Your question concerned F-bodies and 5.0's from the late 1980's and early 1990's and in that specific era, it was the Mustang 5.0 all the way. The 5.0 came into it's own beginning in '87 and that continued right through 1993 when the GM's began to win the HP race, if not the build quality race.

I know, I was there and watched the 5.0's take over on the street by around 1989.
It was a great time to own a new 5.0, and I did (and still have it).

Me too Mr 5.0. I bought my 88 5.0 new in 88. It now has 13K orginal miles. Of course it has been so modified you can hardle call anything orginal with the exception of the body and a few other components.

these are the facts, the 5.0 ruled pretty easily.i have a question though , my 88 gt has home ported stock heads and valves, long tubes, no cats, perf mufflers, full tailpipes, stock timing(10), pullies, stock everything, bigger tires(265/50/15) thats it. how is it that this car walks a 95 z28, out pulls, out runs a 99 ram air trans conv? i'm sure these guys are stock but come on, these things are supposed to be fast right? i run 102 in the quarter with a ton of wheelspin.3.08 gears still.i do this routinely, at first i was leary about racing them, now, its hilarious. they look so smug at first. any idea how this is?

A ws6 car should run easy low 13's bone stock.
Trap speed around 108!!!!!
I am a stang guy for sure...(i just bought my 4th stang last night....and another notch at that!
this one is an '88 but it's mass air from cali.)
But no way is stocker gonna touch a ws6 car.
My old notch went 12.50's and i ran around on cheater slicks.
I had to destroy those cars from the hole to beat them up top.
The top end is incredible.
I've had 3 full cars and lost by the time we got up to about 105-110

4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's
