Default portable heaters for cars??

Here's the situation: A few months back I bought an '88 Taurus as a temp. replacement for my g/f car that burned up.
The day after we bought the car(POS!!) the heater core went out.
Our plan is only to keep the car until income tax time so we can afford a better car for her. As you know, winter is approaching and I don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars in having the heater core replaced.
Do they make a portable heater unit that would plug into the cigarette lighter?
What can we do to keep frost off the windshield without replacing the heater core....if anything?
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL WE GET RID OF THAT POS!!
