biggest widest wheel and tire combo for 96 gt

if I were to go with a 97 gt lowered considerably, and I wanted a 17 inch wheel, what are my options? I want that off set look in the rear, how wide can I go in the back and what back spacing without rubbing, thanks again!! http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

Not sure on the back spacing, but you can run a 315 tire in the back, so you should be able to run a 17x9. Maybe wider.

WELL once again BIGWHITECOBRA comes to save the day!! thanks, BTW what do you run (tire wise?

You need a 10.5" wheel to run 315s properly. AFS makes Cobra R knock offs in that size with proper back spacing, but I've heard some very mixed reviews about their quality. You will also have to either flip or remove the quad shocks. You can fit up to a 275/40 on a 9 inch rim on the front.

BTW, are you going for a look, or for actual performance?

SYCLONE 01-29-2001 03:22 AM

man I'm sorry I very novice to mustangs, but not to cars but please explain "quad shocks" I'm a little confused what does it detail?

the car woll be a clean mix of both looks and moderate performance no blower, nos, more of a road car "high speed" sorry http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

The quad shocks are those little shock absorbers towards the outside of the axle, right where the inside edge of a 315mm tire would like to be. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif They are used to help control wheel hop due to axle wind up.

SYCLONE 01-29-2001 04:50 PM

what kind of effect would it have If I were to remove the quad shocks?

With a stock suspension and no quad shocks you most likely experiance major wheelhop off the line.

If you do some minimal suspension enhancements like rear lower control arms and like you stated lower it, the problem will be non-existant.

Oh, the Kenne Bell Stalker project car used 275/40ZR17's up front and 315/35ZR 17's out back on 17x9.5 and 17x10.0 rims.

bigwhitecobra 01-30-2001 12:02 AM

I'm running 245/45ZR17's all around. I want her to look as stock as possible(for now).

Really, 10's? I thought you were good with 9's. Oh well, I never claimed to be smart. <chuckle chuckle>

Well even with a 245/45 tire the stock 7.5" wheels are at the maximum safety limits. That's about 32.6mm per inch of tire. Given the fact it would be much harder to do that on a 315/35 series tire, and even a 9.5" wheel would be narrower in ratio than the 245 on a 7.5" rim, you'd be in deep noogie.

A 315/35 tire would be approximately 315mm wide, and have a sidewall height of less than 4.5". At 315mm that would be 12.5". Fitting a 12.5" wide tire on a 9" rim with only 4.5" of sidewall is impossible. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

Hehe, if you can follow what I'm saying then points for you, it's late, and I'm babbling. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif

BTW, 285s are the biggest you want to go on a 9" rim.

bigwhitecobra 01-30-2001 02:34 AM

Well........NOOGIE!!! I thought I had it down pat, but thanks for clearing that up!! HEH HEH noogie!
