Mitsubishi has decided to kill the name Mirage and call it the Lancer like everywhere else in the world. Rumor has it, that the powerful Evo model will be coming shortly after as a limited edition depending on how well the WRX sales. Rumor also has it that it won't be as de-tuned as the WRX was(they didn't need to make it ULEV). Finally Japanese car makers are stepping up to the plate big time.

Any idea on a projected date? I may have to forget the Bullitt for a while. That Lancer Evol VII is such a badazz.

Yeah, my import friends are singing the praises of the Lancer. I heard that the Japanese version, the one that runs 12's stock, wont be the one we get, though. The reason is that the Lancer in Japan would never meet the US's crash ratings. Therefore, the one we see will be a lot heavier, and thus, slower. It'll still be fast though.

On a different topic, Inferno, I know its none of my business, but I was just curious if you and, I think it was Stng87, settled your differences.

Anyways, back on topic, I heard that it will be heavier as it will have some more front end reinforcement, but that it will have more than 250hp....the Japanese version makes *wink, wink* 280hp *nudge, nudge*....The Evo might make it to the US as a 2003 or 2004 model. They are changing the name of the Mirage to Lancer this year(2002 model).

So to recap, do you know what the exact specs on the US 2002 Lancer are?

The Lancer(regular model) will be either a dohc 1.8 or 2.0 liter I4 making 125hp. The Evo at the soonest will appear as a 2003 special edition car and like I said earlier, is rumored to have more than 250hp. I assume that it will be using the same 2.0 turbo engine as it has since it's introduction but they could have a new engine in the works.
