Police package stang questions
I'm looking for feedback good or bad on a 92 police stang thanks http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Just as good as any other 87-93 mustang, there aren't many differences, though many of them are nice and desireable:
recalibrated fan clutch blue radiator hoses trunk pop switch near driver instead of in glove box 1 key opens car as well as starts car number of other small things that i'm missing. I wouldn't pay much more for a police stang, except for the fact that its probably somewhat collectable. |
Police Mustangs sometimes have better cooling & charging systems and a few other small items may be enhanced as well. Engines are always stock and folks who buy Police Mustangs and then claim them to be way faster than others either are deluded or the engine has been modified by another previous owner, not the original Police department owner.
The good thing is that most Police Mustangs have been maintained better than most cars and even with high mileage, they should hold up well. Not a bad buy, especially if you can get a good deal on one. |
Ya, they probably are fairly well maintained as far as the engine goes, but the interior may be a different story, as it probably smells like coffe and doghnuts! Mr 5 0 is right that they are stock, as all police cars are (crown vics or stangs) and are no faster than any other mustang, that is unless the previous owner has modded it.

Hmm I thought I read somewhere they had a bigger cam? and whats the deal with "certified calibration"? I've also read they have stiffer suspension? the car I'm looking at is decent 120k miles I know the officer that owned it and the mechanic that worked on it, it runs strong and everything works, I'm not too concerned about the holes and stuff, it will need a paint job ,it has an auto that's rebuilt and the brakes are new, the ac is cold and the passneger and rear seat are fresh, it rides nice too, 4500.00$ I think it's fair, what are the con and pro's to the stang auto's? besides not being able to bang gears http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif thanks Guys

the certified calibration is on the speedometer and as far as i know its a more accurate speedometer than the factory one so the pigs, i mean police officers http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif can know "exactly" their speed and yours, there are many other little things they did to them too, just depends on where its from, i just found out mine has a block heater as well as all the other stuff, its nice only having to use one key and not having to reach over to the glove box to pop the trunk, i'd say definately buy one if you can find one

SYCLONE:
At $4500., it sounds like a good deal. Besides, you'll have the coveted calibrated speedometer - at least until you cahnge rear gears. The AOD is rather weak for hard use (racing) but you may have a cooler on the Police 'Stang which will help durability - if not performance. Get a shift kit and some rear gears (4.10) and you'll do fine, but I maintain that in a real street car, nothing beats a manual, but that's just my opinion. Let us know if you buy it and how it works out for you. |
excelent !! I'm probobly gonna pick it up tommorow, I know it has the hoses, fan clutch, heater bypass,93 modified poly bushing front end with upgraded a arms and new shocks,160 mph speedo,(how fast can these things go?) and a larger alternator, it needs tires and an alingment too but I have a good buddy in the buisness so that's not too bad! one more ?? where can I get the original push bar for the front?

mine is a 90 ex highway patrol, 160 speedo, oil cooler, reinforced floorpans, and a few other police things, some reason my car is just a tad quicker than other coupes with similar mods, but that probaly has to do with driving http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif oh and mine is a 5spd, lol my brother told me it smelled like a cop car when i got it.
