Please Help!!!
I have a '91 5.0 LX that while driving down the road it just dies, if you try to restart it right away it won't start, if you let it set just a few minutes it will start and run for a few seconds and die out again, if you let it set for 15 minutes it will run longer. This will go on for a while and then it will start up and stay running. This has happened once last year but has ran fine ever since, until now. Right now it seems to run fine sitting in the driveway at an idle. This seems to be a very intermittent problem. What should I check??? |
Check for bend or kinked fuel lines, the fuel pump and filter, and make sure your getting fire to your plugs
later Josh, aka the tireburner163 ------------------ 1990 Dodge Dynasty with 275,000 miles. Mods:chiped paint, CD player. Sucks but it was free. Praying for a stang. The "Guetto Glider" http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net2/burnout.gif If it ain't broke, you ain't tryin hard enough |
Does it do that just when it's hot out?
If so, it could be a vapor-locking problem. From experience with an embarrasing non Mustang: Heat from the road "boils" the gas in the tank or lines. Fuel pump won't pull vapor. Runs fine once it's cooled down. VERY fast way to kill a fuel pump on a water cooled veedub. (D'oh!! I said it. *Hangs head in shame*) I haven't worked with Mustangs much. Just the little I got done on my GT before I lost it. So I could be way off base with this idea.... |
1) Check your battery connection
2) Check to make sure the nut is tight on the starter 3) Look for any wires to be laying against the header, this could melt the insulation and cause a arc and short out and stall the vehicle. 4) Fuel pump could be weakening ------------------ 347 Stroker Motor: Balanced, Cobra Transmission, Extrude Ported and Polished Upper and ported Lower, GT40 Milled Ported and Polished Heads, B303 Cam, BBK 1 5/8 Headers, 30lb Bosch Injectors, Holley AFPR, March Underdrive Pulleys, Perma-Cool Fan, 3-Core Radiator, Accel Performance Coil, Accel 300+ Racing Wires, Ram Air, K&N Filter, 73mm Vortech MAF, 70mm TB, FlowMaster Exhaust w/BBK Offroad H-Pipe, Hurst Shifter, 3:55 Gears, Ram Clutch, Cross Drilled Rotors, AC and Smog del, rear seat del. |
