Help with this question please!!! V6 or another...

What would you choose:
To have a payed in full
(meaning a free) Mustang V6 brand NEW 99-01!!! or a USED GT that you have to pay for. Plus you must consider in car insurence.
Free NEW V6 or Payable (not free) USED GT?

What year GT?? What is the difference in insurance rates?? Did you call and get quotes on both cars??

People on this board can guide you pretty well but ultimately, the decision is up to YOU. What do you think you'd be more happy in?? What style do you like??

Personally, I'd take the GT. Sure you have to pay on it but it's a world of difference from a V6. And think of it this way, while you're paying payments, you will be building your credit at the same time!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

But by the time you save for the GT, you could have already had one paid off. Just put a few grand down on a GT and you're set.

hey #1 Pony,
are you talking about you already have the money for a V6, but not quite enough for a GT, or that someone has told you they'd buy you a V6 and NOT a GT.
Here's what i'd do. I'd personally get the free V6 because not only do you not have to get comprehensive insurance and pay the higher prices of the GT, but it's FREE. After getting the free V6 i'd drive it around and NOT modify it. I'd save up my money for a fox body mustang to build up as a fast car and let the V6 be a daily driver.
But of course, this is just my opinion and what i'd do, but if you have the option to get a NEW CAR for FREE, do it, it's something that i wish that i would've had offered to me.
Please, explain your situation a little more, it's a little unclear as to where the money is coming from for the V6, how much you have to spend, and whatnot....

Before I can give a recommendation, I would have to see some more details.

Get all of the numbers together. Consider fuel, insurance, monthly payments, maintenance, etc. Also consider estimated car value in the future.

Put them on a piece of paper (or a spread sheet is even better) and have a look at the big picture.

You may find it with in your best interest to take the V6, put the money you would have spent on the GT and bank it. Then after 2 or 3 years, you could sell the V6 and take the money that you have saved and buy a new GT (presumably a 2003 or 2004 model). But you'll have to live with a V6 for that time. It's going to take more details though... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

1995 Mustang GT

Ok, here are the facts:

The V6 was offered to me, meaning someone else will buy me a brand new V6- year range '99-'01 (not sure yet). No money out of my pocket. Or I could refuse and get a '95-'00 (maybe '00) used GT, but I have some money to put down, just not enough to buy new...
maybe $18,000+ (which can buy a used GT).
BUT I'm not working right now (multiple reasons)and will not be working for awhile.

INSURENCE: I have not gotten proper rates it could be anywhere from $600+ to $1,020 pretty broad. But I have to come up with that money too or use what I have.

PLUS!! On the hopeful side, I MIGHT end up with a NEW GT!! *I'm going to keep that in my prayers*

Get a low mileage extended warranty 1999-2001 used Mustang GT.

The GT is more than just an engine. It's an engine, tranny, power options, rear end, handling package, traction control, and brake upgrade. The GT will hold it's resale far better than the V-6, will probably match the fuel economy, and it will be much nicer.

That is of course if you are being supplied with 18k. If you are just being promised a new V-6, and nothing if you go the route of a GT, then get the V-6.

Stang_Crazy 08-24-2001 07:00 PM

I didn;t realize you had 18k for a GT!! If you put like 12 or 13k down on a new GT your payments will be dirt cheap plus you will still have some $$ left over.

ummmm.........get the v6, then sell it.

Vector 08-26-2001 06:18 AM

Hmmm, isn't this a little obvious or is it just me? FREE CAR! It's something you can have for FREE that won't change anything at all (except you have a car now). You can always buy the GT as well and have 2 cars! It's something for free TAKE IT dammit don't say no to something which will cost you NOTHING. It's not like it's one or the other you can have both! Take the damn car there is no other option, to refuse it is to refuse a FREE car wich is STUPID!

Hell if you don't want it give it to me!!!

mustang marty gt 08-26-2001 08:58 PM

i will tell you this when started shopping for my pony i already had a 69 grande which i gave to my son but anyway i talked to a ford fanatic for life i am too but he told me to stay away from 3.8 v sixes unless i had four or five sets of head gasket sets so i went in deeper and got the 2000 gt well worth the extra bucks just wish i had the cake for SVT good luck on your decision

Insurance is going to kill you, unless you have it under your parents. I just got a 2000 SS(after many long debates) for $18,900, and it had 19k on it. Insurance under me was going to be: 1st place said they wouldn't cover me because I'm not 21, 2nd place was $2548 EVERY 6 MONTHS, 3rd place was $4857 EVERY 6 MONTHS! I finally got around that, my opinion I would get the 00 GT! My payments aren't bad, I make more than enough to pay them. Plus when I sale the stang it'll be that much cheaper. So much difference between that and the a V6, no comparison.
