Just something to test some knowledge around here. i'll post the answers Sunday after the race.

1. The '83 Mustang GT came with an SROD four-speed manual trans. What does SROD mean?

2. Mustangs from '79 to '95 were all available with a V8 engine. It was a 302(or 5.0) for 15 of those 17 years. Which two years was the 302 not available, and what size was the engine.

3. During the 79-93 run of Fox Mustang production, there was an upgrade from a 7.5" to an 8.8" rear end. What was the first year for the 8.8" and what gear ratios have come from the factory in Mustangs since then?

4. What was the size of the Throttle body on '86 5.0 Mustangs?

5. The '86 Mustang had restrictive cyclindreheads that make great paperweights. What is the casting found on thses heads?

6. The largest optional wheel for 79-84 Mustangs was an odd ball size. What was the size of the wheel in inches, and what was the only make of tire that would fit it?

7. What was the last year of forged pistons in a 5.0?

8. True or false? The Boss 302 Mustangs of 69 and 70 came with huge intake valves in the Cleveland-style head. There was no change in the size of these valves between the two years.

9. If there was a size change in the valves, what was in the 69 and 70 Boss 302s?

1980-1981 Offered a debored version of the 302 which displaced 255ci, or 4.2L.

The first year for the 8.8" was 1986. Gear ratios available as for a stock Mustang from Ford were 2.73:1, 3.08:1, and 3.27:1.

4. What was the size of the Throttle body on '86 5.0 Mustangs?
The throttle body is the smallest of all SEFI 5.0's in 1986, it measures 58mm.

5. The '86 Mustang had restrictive cyclindreheads that make great paperweights. What is the casting found on thses heads?
The good 'ol "E6" special Mustang heads. Primarily responsible for the 200hp rating for that car.

6. The largest optional wheel for 79-84 Mustangs was an odd ball size. What was the size of the wheel in inches, and what was the only make of tire that would fit it?
Michelin actually offers two Metric tires for the TRX wheels. They are an R390, or 15.3543307087" give or take.

Quote:

7. What was the last year of forged pistons in a 5.0?
The forged pistons were given the axe because of emissions concerns at the end of the 1992 model year for the 5.0HO. Starting in 1993 the 5.0HO came with cast hypereutics.

8. True or false? The Boss 302 Mustangs of 69 and 70 came with huge intake valves in the Cleveland-style head. There was no change in the size of these valves between the two years.
False.

9. If there was a size change in the valves, what was in the 69 and 70 Boss 302s?
The 1969 Boss 302 had the 427 sized 2.21" intake valves, where the 1970, because of low rpm power issues was given the 2.19" intake.

Quote:

10. True or false? Ford's nearly indestructable 2.3L four-banger uses hydraulic valve lifters.
The Single overhead cam 2.3L I-4 was the first domestically built single overhead cam 4 cylinder to be mass produced. It came with hydraulic lifters.

TXinPA 10-27-2001 11:16 AM

I might know some of those.
3. 1964 1/2-1967, 1974, 1980-1981
4. 1974 169 ci 6 cyl
5. 140 ci 145hp 4 cyl EFI turbo svo
6 1964 1/2 260ci 164 hp
8. Boss 1969-1970, C8FE casting block
Cleavland 1970-1974 D0AE-D, C, orA casting
9. The Boss head is little more than a modified cleavland head revised for use on a 302 block.
10. The 428?

bigwhitecobra 10-27-2001 11:31 AM

I'll give answers after the race on sunday. But I will say that Unit was wrong on the smallest wheel. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif It measured 15.3x5.9 inches.
Oh, and the 2.3L uses hydraulic lash adjusters. They perform nearly the same function as hydraulic lifters, but do not contact the cam.

No offence taken. All is in good fun.

390mm is 15.35" I think he was correct.

351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible

Unit 5302 10-27-2001 12:35 PM

Yes, yes, not technically lifters. Fine then, you're wrong about the wheel size because the SVO started in 1984 and featured a 16" wheel, which is larger than the 390mm or 15.3543307087" wheel you cited. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif Have a couple sets in the garage of the TRX metrics. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

The Boss 302 did debut 1 year ahead of the Cleveland, it did use Cleveland style heads. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif It used canted valves like the 351C 4V, but they were more aggressive, actually the Boss 302 heads were used on the 1971 Boss 351 because of that.

Right on the money
4. 1974 169 ci 6 cyl CORRECT
5. 140 ci 145hp 4 cyl EFI turbo svo If the SVO was rated at 145hp in 1986, how would it have surpassed the 200hp SEFI 5.0HO? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif
6 1964 1/2 260ci 164 hp Yeehaw
8. Boss 1969-1970, C8FE casting block
Cleavland 1970-1974 D0AE-D, C, orA casting
9. The Boss head is little more than a modified cleavland head revised for use on a 302 block.
I think you meant this as an answer to the subquestion to 8 The Boss 302 block is completely different than the standard 302, so really, the heads didn't require much for mods to fit. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif YOu are right.[/i]
10. The 428? Sorry, the 428 came after the 427.

Ok, you're right on that. I forgot about the SVO.
