Need some transmission advice

I plan to purchase a Lentech AOD in the near future (within the next 2 months), but I need some advice.

Honestly, the trans that I have now (see sig) needs rebuilding. I was very close to getting it done for about $550 (from a place with a good reputation), but couldn't decide: should I rebuild the C4, and while I'm having a little fun with it, save up for the Lentech, and then purchase the Lentech and sell the C4 or just go ahead and get the Lentech and sell the C4 which needs rebuilding (knowing I can't get half as much $$ from it in it's current condition (takes a few seconds to shift into reverse and doesn't shift 1-2-3 HALF as hard as it use to-- now you can't even tell there is a shift kit in there at all-- and it's slowly getting worse, of course).

I kinda just wanna go ahead and buy the Lentech and sell the C4 (I love my C4!!!).

I know it's not a decision that could determine the fate of mankind, but I would still appreciate you guys' advice.

Will your C4 make it a few more months? From what you said, it doesn't sound like it. That's your immediate consideration. Not much fun to put it in 'drive' hit the gas and sit there revving while the car creeps forward.

On that basis, I would certainly have the C4 rebuilt which will give you plenty of time to continue to save up for the Lentech and still have a transmission you can sell for a reasonable price later, instead of using it as a boat anchor.

I agree with Mr 5 0, rebuild the C4 for the $550, and keep saving for the AOD. Just try not to trash the C4 before you can buy the AOD....you should be able to get a good chunk of money out of a good rebuilt C4...IMHO.....

Too bad you do not live in jax fla. I know someone that could build it for about 300 to 400 dollars. The same guy that built mine and he has a reputation for building good racing transmissions.

He did a great job on mine.

If you want to make the trip I will call him and find out just how much he would charge you.

You guys give good advice...

FOrgive me for taking so long to reply, my internet cable is pissing me off. It was off and just got back on today....

Thanks a lot guys for your advice. I think it's great advice and I'll follow it.

Then again, I am VERY close to purchasing a 1991 LX hatchback by Monday (2 days from now). So I can start stripping down the '79 and won't have to worry about the transmission :).
