Is this a real problem?

The rear end in my car seems to be spinning one wheel more than the other. My father in law said that it may be that the Posi is going bad. I don't know wether this is true or not because I've never heard of Ford putting a "posi" in thier cars.

Does his idea hold any merit?

If not, what could be causing the rear to spin one tire more than the other?

Anyway, thanks.

Later.

cobra i dont know if im just being dumb here but my 69 had a limeted slip rear end & so does my 00 one tire would spin till the other side caught ,and straightened me out, but one day the ol 69 starting smoking the he-- out of one side till the other side finally cuaght hold, when i got home the tire that was spinning was as slick as a baby's behind my 00 catches a lot quicker, hope it helps ,or i may be crazy, see ya  you might want to ask pkrwud or unit ,hey chris -800 hehe.

Traction-Loc clutch discs wearing out, it won't hurt anything, but you'll be doing the one-wheel burnout!

PKRWUD 12-03-2001 04:05 PM

Limited slip and posi are the same things, just different names. If one tire is spinning, the other should lock up. If it doesn't, your rear end may be on it's way out.

Take care,
-Chris

Not all Mustangs have posi...my '69 Coupe's stock rear end didn't have it....but I added a Currie 9" with a Traction-Lok...

I am pretty sure posi rear ends are standard on new GTs...My dad's Jeep Grand Cherokee has 3.73 gears and posi...for being a boat that thing will get off the line hard!!

On the window sticker your car had, it's likely to come with the words "Positraction". Ford calls their limited slip by the technical term Trac Lok, I believe.

Yes, your father in law is dead on.

Call Holcomb and order a T-loc rebuild kit and go to your local Ford dealer and buy the F-150 T-Loc S-Spring. There's an article on the Corral about rebuilding the rear end with some good info on how to make the T-Loc work a lot better. We used it to build mine and I have no problem with the one wheel peel anymore. Now I get both wheels peeling :p
