Dollar store?
This is just a thought:
Since the economy has slowed down in the last few months, I noticed a lot of people are putting off major purchases, instead opting to indulge themselves with little things. The same goes for our hot rods. I've seen 'dollar' stores at the mall, where everything in the store costs $1 or less. People don't usually go there to find anything specific. It's the kind of store you wander through until you see something cool, and lay down your dollar. I don't know of much you could buy for your car for a buck, however, I considered creating something like an online $49 or $99 store. Everything would cost that amount or less. Just a random collection of parts and tools you could browse through if you're looking to buy something, while not in a position to spend a lot. You know, small stuff to keep you happy while you're dreaming about that supercharger or heads. Any thoughts? |
That would be cool....you would definitely get my business!!!

Pretty good idea. But $1 do so good cause there so convient. Easy way to get rid of your change and everyone has a dollar to spare. But it's true, sometimes the most enjoyable things in life don't come with a big price tag.

Mach, conveniece is certainly part of the attraction to a $1 store. My thought was that someone might see something and think, "Hey! I've been looking for that!". Who knows? There's always the possibility of taking a truckload of stuff to NMRA events, and setting up a mobile store, in conjunction with a site.

Well, let me know if you do decide to do this...I need a set of heads and a cam....:D

Take it one step further, and sell everything you can. Just market it all in priced steps. For example, have a $49 and under section, where everything is $49 or less. Then add a $50 - $99 section, a $100 - $199 section, etc. This would be especially popular with those who have a given amount of money that they want to spend on their car, but aren't sure what they want to buy. This would come in handy around birthdays and holidays, tax return time, for spouses wanting to buy a surprise, etc. Most magazines have a section like this at least once a year, and I enjoy seeing them.
Take care, -Chris |
PKRWUD, that's a good idea. I think that $199 might be the useful limit for such a concept, if not $99. Beyond $200, it's more of a major investment, and one that is probably planned ahead.
Perhaps 'dollar store' is not the most accurate term. I wasn't looking to create a way for people to throw away spare change. As 1969Mach1 indicated, dollar stores are often viewed in that context. I was thinking more along the lines of someone with a limited budget browsing the $99 section and finding a weekend project, or something useful that they hadn't thought of purchasing previously. |
