Knowledge about shift kits for AOD's?

hey I know nothing about AOD or AODE shift kits. I need some info on them and a few questions answered(sp?)

Ok, not all shift kits you put in have to be shifted manually right?

Also the ones you put in that are shifted manually have a clutch put in?

If you want to shift manually, without having to shift back to 2nd, it will cost you $350 for the valve body. A shift kit will only change the firmness of the shift. A transgo valve body will change the 2/3 shift to a 3/4(od) shift. A lentech valve body($350 min) will allow you to hold each gear to the desired rpm, kinda manual(depends on how you look at it). You can also leave it in drive and let it shift itself if you want. The lentech(what I have now, love it!) also makes the 3 gear selections on the stick and has a switch for od. That is for the AOD. The AODE is somewhat different, from what I hear. What year car do you have?

Oh, I'm not putting it on my current car. It's for
a future mustang. I just wanted some information.

Thanks!

hey rick my 00gt is the first aod ive owned in years, what do i need for it , it's cool if i kick it hard it goes from od to third , like a two down shift, thats where i get most of mycatch up & pass on car's ,it's kinda wierd for me but he-l it work's pretty good ,im used to 4-speed's etc , any help would be appreciated, thanks.marty, btw i wont see your reply till tomorrow ,gotta go to bed 3rd shift sux later.:)

Marty, I wish I could help you but, I only know about the money pit I own:), a little about the c-4 and thats about it.. I think a chip is needed to change the shift points in the AODE and I have absolutely no idea about the tranny in your car(sorry). I would say gears but after seeing saleen sticking with the stock gears.. They actually got better times with the 3.27s so they don't offer the 3.55s in the auto, only the 5 speed.

Crazy horse gt, check with Mustangmom2k in the Female forum. She's had a little nightmare with the chip that corrects her speedo and shift points in her 2000 GT. I'm more of a '60's guy, but I do know that 4.10's and a shift kit (reqiring a chip) will help you a lot.
