Camaro guy needs help with Cobra info.....

Whats up guys/gals. Need you guys' help. I have learned alot from all of your posts here about the 4v Cobra motor in the little time I have been here.

Heres my question; here is my friends mod list and car.......

"97 Cobra: BBK Longtubes w/offroad h-pipe, MAC cat back, FMS 4.10's, Spec Stg.3 clutch, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, Alum. driveshaft.
Coming soon: Vortech S-Trim and a lot of other stuff"

What surprises me, and has made me come to your board to get educated, is that he ran a 12.9 with his current mods. Sunday, he got his S-trim blower put on. With that 12.9 with gears and the h-pipe as his only mods, he has stunned the f-bod crowd already. Since the track closed, he has added long tubes and now the blower.

On another board (our local Ezee board) we are dicussing what he should run. I doubted his car ran a 12.9 with a gear, and I was wrong. There are a few guys on the board saying he will hit 11's no problemmo. Some of the f-bod guys are making azzes of themselves by saying "there no way". I am not one of them. ;)

Just want to bring in more opinions about what to expect. Me? Before I would have said maybe a 12.6 or so with all current mods he has........now I say he should be 12.2-12.3 at best. Am I wrong?

Let me hear it guys.

If he is not in the 11s then that would be a total shock. Dude, he is gonna pick up alot more than .6-.7. He is gonna need a decent tire though he probably already has them:).

rbatson 12-17-2001 11:47 PM

I'm gonna guess in the 11.5-11.6 range. Be sure to let us know what he runs:)

Holy crapola!

You think he will be turning that low?

I know he has aquired some slicks. What times should he run on street tires? I should have clarified that.

With a S-trim he could knock off a second easy(if he can hook up). I'm guessin mid 11's. It really depends on how good of a driver he is, how much boost he's runnin, and the state a tune.

tireburner163 12-17-2001 11:54 PM

Well with street tire, he's more that likely gonna spin the ever lovin crap out of his tires. On street tires (if the 12.9 was also run on street tires) low-mid 12's. It just depends on how well he can hook up, he may run a lot faster.

The times I guessed are probably a bit optmistic. I'm just going by the fact that he is already running high 12s with little mods(doing something right) and he is about to strap well over 100hp to that combo. Sounds like he is already running a good dr. Traction and weight transfer(setup) are probably gonna make the difference..

I'd say high 11's sounds right. Now if he bolts on the right supension set up, and some slicks, that Cobra would Blister (Well it already is.).

Theres a few guys in town here that run High 12's with just gears and Off-Road Pipes in there Mod Motor Cobras.

Hey, who was it that was running low 12's and shooting for the 11's with a NA Mod Motor Cobra? I cant remember.

Bob Cosby run 11.80s in a NA 99' cobra. 4.56 gear, the IRS has been swaped for a solid axle, the rest I can't remember.

Those 4V Cobra motors respond very well to boost. You can pick up just about any 5.0 or MM&FF magazine and see a guy who bought a new Cobra, threw on a blower and some other basic mods and runs 11's all day and then drives it home!

I have seriously considered selling my 91 Coupe for a 01/02 Cobra with the following mods:

1) 4.10 gear
2) Drag radials
3) Complete exhaust system
4) ProCharger P-1SC
5) Shifter

This simple combo will produce very solid results.

With traction and a decent tune, you're talking about a real strong runner...I'm gonna guess somewhere in the high 11's / low 12's.

Keep us posted on what happens.

Take care,
E
