Ideas... Boost...351?...
Well Its time to try and make the stang a bit faster. Within the next few months.
I have two ideas. Paxton Novi 1000 Blower $1699. Fuel system upgrades $~400 bux or Sell the 302 SB, get a 351 SB, 10.7:1 compression, port the tfs heads. Holley intake, 75mm TB, cam to be picked, 80mm MAF. Maybe a 393, but I doubt I could afford it. Either case sell the N20 to help afford it. It sure would be cool to go deep 11's all motor, and more reliable, but the Novi would be easier and cheaper. Whatcha think? Skyler |
mid 12's not enough??
So mid 12's all motor is gettin' kinda boring huh  The Novi is going to be much cheaper and you'll see results faster. If you have low miles on the 302, I'd go for the Novi.
The 351 option is tempting but what kind of time frame are you looking at? Would you have enough $$$ to buy most of the parts at the same time? The 351 will give you more options if you somehow get bored with it too ;) i.e. stroker... If it were me, I'd go for the Novi. I like the idea of beating up on people and when they ask what you're runnin, you say "All I have is a little 302" Good Luck with whatever option you choose and don't forget us that are still stuck in the 14's! :D |
Forced Induction.
BTW, I might be able to get you a better deal. I prefer Vortech, but I have better connections at Paxton (kinda nice having them both as our neighbors, isn't it!). We're racing tomorrow (Saturday), so I'll see what I can find out. Take care, -Chris |

If you really want a supercharger, I think the Novi 2000 would be a much better choice considering your setup. It's a supercharger that can provide you with great power now -- and even more power if (when) you decide to step up the combo w/ a 331 or a 351W-based powerplant.
I see the Novi 1000 as a good choice for someone that has a stock 5.0 w/ bolt-ons that is just getting into the hp game. I have driven in both n2o and blown mustangs and they are both similar in that the power isn't really there in "around town" driving. Yeah, the blower is "on" all the time but you really don't notice it until you go for a 4,000-5,800rpm blast down the local street. Of course, nitrous is only "on" when you're at WOT. Although I have never driven in a 331 or 351W-based mustang, I would imagine that this would give the best of both worlds. Let's say you keep your current combo, save up for a couple years, and then get a nice 500hp all-motor 372 or 392 (351W-based stroker motor). Now you have (1) a fresh motor, (2) the same top end pull w/ the same (or higher mph in the 1/4), and most importantly (3) you have more bottom-end torque so the car mostly likely will feel faster at ALL rpms. Just my $.02 |
Skyman, have you thought about a stroker 331 or 347? could just do a port job on heads and diff cam and intake.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!
that was funny Joe! |
I don't see why you would not put down 425 or more to the wheels with the 302 and the Novi 1000. I have read of a ton of cars that have. 425 at the wheels is 500 at the crank.
NICE!!!! |
PAXTON!!!
Go with a NOVI 2000 and when you blow the motor, then put in a 351!!!!!!!
I have a Novi 2000 waiting for install. I still need 42lb injectors and a MAF and Ignition. I can't wait! Then we'll have to meet up on the freeway again! Good Luck, Adam |
Thanks for the opinions guys.
I already know the #'s I can make with em, its just decieding. The thing is I just got nailed on 2 traffic tickets for $400 yesturday, and almost got my 4th this year last night (loose your liscense). So I maybe holding off for a little while, I need to learn to restrain my foot, and look in the rearview mirrior more. SKyler |

I say you keep the car the way it is, and buy a liter bike :D JK! I agree with 514, wait for the double whammy! Or, build the 351 now, then when you have more money, FI it! |

If I had skyler's combo and I was dead-set on getting a Novi then I would go for the Novi 2000 and that's that...I don't care if I'd have to save for another year...that's the best novi blower to get for his combo..period. Sure the Novi 1000 could make 425rwhp (or more)...but what about 500rwhp.....or 600rwhp? Is this blower capable of growing with your desire for more power? Another reason to go w/ the 2000 is efficiency.....16lbs of boost from a Novi 1000 isn't going to give you as much as 16lbs of boost from the 2000 unit. FYI, I remember reading an article in one of the rags about this dude who either had a 302 or 351 stroker (something like a 347 or 372 or something like that). He actually got REAL crazy and went with a Novi 3000!! People think that the 3000 is race-only but he happily ran 16lbs of boost...and...if he desired....1,000hp was only a pulley change away. Just my $.02 |
