Driver/Car Profiling...

Since I've come to Toronto I've noticed that most of the time when someone cuts me off or does somethings stupid they are driving a Saturn? What gives?

I've also noticed that whenever I see a Level III idiotic event its some moron in a Honda Accord (not necessarily riced out either).

Anyone else make some connections like this?

PKRWUD 07-05-2002 08:20 AM

I don't even remember the last time I noticed a Saturn around here, which to me means they are discrete drivers. The majority of the jerks I see are either in Honda's or Dodge trucks. It is much easier for me to tell you the ethnicity of 90% of the terrible drivers around here, but I wouldn't want to allow the truth to be manipulated by someone else as a racial comment.

:)

Take care,
-Chris

I don't believe you can prove that irresponsible drivers favor one make of car over another but since Japanese imports and econocars in general make up a large portion of total automobile registrations it stands to reason that they will often be the cars you see being driven irresponsibly.

As for ethnic and/or racial makeup of irresponsible drivers, that will vary by geographical as well as metro areas and isn't a real indicator of much except that idiot driving knows no ethnic or racial bounds and anyone can be a jerk behind the wheel.

I know that there are no "rules" to this, but it is just something that I've noticed.

I always wonder how people who can't read engish and are driving get on. I mean not all signs use the "international-type" symbols that everyone can recognise.

I'm not sure, I never have anyone ever cut me off really, and if they do I just hunt them down, like chase after them and cut them off. My dad always seems to have ricers cut him off or try to race him. He's got a 90 T-bird SC, with no mufflers or cats and this thing moves, he raced an integra once, and ran it off the road, they both stopped at a light and were turning left, both in seperate lanes, they both took off the Integra lost it hit one curb spun and went over the island in the middle, ripped the bottom of his car apart and landed on the other side of the road. Funniest stuff when you go back and see parts of plastic all over the place. :D As for Saturn drivers, I never have any problems with them, maybe there over confident of there dent resistent doors. :D

A certain ethnic group around here has a thing for beige-gold toyota Corollas. Outside of Vancouver I can go days without seeing another but can't go 30 seconds without one driving by in Vancouver.

i live in retirementville, FL so i can safely say that the people i have to watch out for are over senior citizens...i see more of them cutting off people, not using signals, keeping signals on, taking peoples lanes, causing fender-benders, nudging their nose into oncoming traffic (almost hit me too), etc etc....its cuz the majority of them are barely over the wheel...

course this is definetly because of where i live...and im sure to be PC its only 90% of them and the other 10% are very responsible...heh

Mustangbelle306 07-06-2002 03:11 PM

I've noticed that white dudes in BMWs and Benzs loooooove to fly up on you in the fast lane doing 90+ (and sometimes in the slow lane too!) I also see that on 95 north, but seems like everyone is flying on that road anyways ;)

Also, little Asian ladies in Toyota Corollas/Camrys like to make turns at the last minute, take 3487247 minutes to make a lane change, etc. Of course (disclaimer) this isn't always true, but its happened SO MANY TIMES that I couldn't help but notice.

As for bikes, I notice that its not just specifically sportbike, Harley or jap cruiser riders that are unsafe and rude on the road, its the guys with "something to prove". Either its the 18 year old kid on a R1 in a wifebeater that thinks he's cool wearing his flipflops, or the chopper/cruiser rider with his BRAINCUP on that thinks his face and arms are impervious to the powers of skin vs asphalt  Not like I care, hell natural selection can work its mighty power, I just notice that lack of concern for one's own safety (obviously) seems to translate to lack of caring for those around them.

I would guess its due to their age, and the attitude that they don't have to yield to anyone, they've done their time :D etc, or those darn whippersnappers in their dang MUSTANGS! Or maybe they are just so darn tootin' blind they can't see the dotted lines or the road signs ;)

Not sure if you are being facetious or not, but thanks regardless ;)

Im on the other coast, BC that is, Im originally from Toronto. My friends and I have made the observation that everytime there is a huge car accident as a result of street racing (there was actually an article on this in the paper), it almost exclusively involves some ricemobile. There was a list of the last 10 fatal acidents in Vancouver from street racing and none involved any domestic cars...Im not sure if that draws any conclusions or not. These are the same rice rockets we see with the popular (what we call) chinese cities on their dashes with the lastest hello kitty and pockemon apparel.

1BAD302 and Digital3.3, how about the new BMW's and Benzes with N stickers and the young kid driving like it's an arcade game? Lots of that on SW marine going to UBC. Last year I lived down in Richmond and I'd see a $70K + car get totalled every week. If only the offshore parents saw how their kids behave with the 100's of thousands of $$ they send their children every year! The crappy part about that is without these kids our insurance rates would be half as much.

yeah really they do drive like tards. one time i was going up scott road and this guy in a bmw pulled up next to me at 96th and when the light turned green he shot off the line to get ahead of me so he wouldn't be behind me and he gets to the hill and takes her right off the corner there. i was talking to the cop and he said the kid had only gotten his licence two days earlier. luckly no one got hurt, hopefully the dumb@ss learned his lesson. even if its a expensive car its still easy to write it off.

I go to SFU and you should see all the rich FOB's that go up there with their high GPAs and their cars mommy bought them. It makes me sick cause you know they havent dropped a dime of their own cash into it. I saw an accord the other day up there with 10 hello kitty stickers all over it and the scariest thing was....it was a guys car

digital3.3 07-07-2002 01:08 AM

that guy needs a good smack up the back side of his head, that has gotta be the lamest thing you can ever see.
