New Here - Few issues to address.
 

OK! My first post on the Mustang forum.

heres sme background info:
I just picked up my 1990 Mustang with a 2.3L. 5 spd. Its got 218000kms (136000mi).
My brother has owned it for a while, probably 6 or more years, so I've driven it a fair bit. Its had this nasty sqeak for as long as I can remember. Any inspiration on whats causing this? I know its not the struts, they're new. My first thought about the squeak was suspension, but Summit Racing is selling 'Subframe Connectors' that reduce body flex and squeaks and creaks too. Its Summit Part number 'SUM-790100' Is this the quick fix for my squeak?

Also, has anyone made brackets to put on a GM power steering pump? That whine is pretty annoying.

My A/C doesn't work. I haven't checked it out or anything, so I have no idea whats up? Is there any common problems I can check out first?

the p/s whine means you have bad hoses, or a leak, somewhere-seal's, gm p/s pumps are far weaker, i know , your ac, either has a leaky bunch of o-ring's or the crap cant think of the name now, well the dam round cannnister, god, ac work is expensive, it's really a rip off, could just need to be re- charged, im no help , cya:) the squeak could be anything, maybe bad rubber bushing's.

Today I'm going to check the timing, what should it be at/near?
Also, in a while I'm gonna change plugs/wires and the cap and rotor and that stuff. Whats your favourite brand of plugs and wires?

Oooh, also what can you tell me about a 4 cyl. Mustang that has 8 spark plugs? Mine doesn't I've just heard about it and I'm wondering.

If you drop a V8 in there you'll have 8 sparks plugs for sure! :D

That's a fine-looking 'Stang and appears to have been well taken care of.

Subframe connectors should help silence that squeek but it could just be some body parts rubbing somewhere and no guarantee that subframe connecters will do the job, however, they are such a good investment I would still recommend you buy and install them.

The Ford Mustang power steering pumps are notorious for whining. Try changing the fluid (no one ever does and this makes a difference) and of course, check for leaks around the hoses. Forget attempting to install a GM pump as there is no advantage to that.

The A/C could have a variety of problems. The most common is leak at the O-rings, as was mentioned in an earlier post. They are cheesy and leak after a few years. I had mine replaced (after they leaked at five years) by an A/C shop with some huge, heavy-duty connectors and never a leak since.

The compressor could be shot (inoperative)...check that (and the fuse). Expensive part to replace- around $400. new. The evaporator can also be shot and need to be replaced. I would have a A/C shop (that you can trust) check it all out, unless you know something about A/C or know someone who does.

Most Mustang owners use the Autolite copper-core plus. Available @ Wal-Mart for $1. each. A brass-terminal cap is best but probably not available for a 2.3.

Lots of good choices in spark plug wires. I use Taylor Spiral-Pro but others have other preferences. New Ford Motorcraft wires are probably fine for your application. Stock ignition timing (initial) is 10 degrees.

Another thing about the squeak is that it happens not only when i hit bumps or when the springs compress or rebound, but when i have the steering wheel and the wheels straight and just wiggle it a tiny bit it also squeaks.:confused: this car...
What do you guys use as jack points? I would have used the ramps we have, but they wouldnt fit under the bumper. Also, I have some 6 ton jacks stands that I use for my trucks, but they're waaay too huge. I ended up using the ramps as jackstands.

*high five*! I drove the "family" car all last year...its a 1990 gt conv with over 280,000 KILOMETERS..i got to watch it switch to that number..it was cool...i saw 270,000 too...i had to comment when i saw the metric units :D mine had no a/c either...it was the compressor in mine..

You may just have squeeky fittings in the front end. Very hard to say at a distance. Lube everything in the front end and what you can't lube, spray. Can't hurt. - might help

The jacking points are right behind the front wheel and just before the rear wheel. There should be black plastic at these points to protect the car and indicate the jack position.
