fixing large paint chips??
 

I just noticed today that right next to her hood on the front of her car she has a quarter sized chip right down to the primer...i stopped it from flaking around it, but she says it started out small and rain got in it etc etc making it larger...well now that its the size of a quarter i have no idea what to do about it....a bodyshop will charge her an arm and a leg for a tiny project like this....so does anyone know how to patch soemthing that size or just put something on it that stops the peeling and expanding?...she drives a 99 cavalier with chevy's dark green color....any input would be appreciated....

...hrm...4 people have looked at this....i dont feel like you people want to help me! lol :( ....maybe a guilt trip will spawn replies....but i guess not if no one is even looking at the thread...lol :p

i swear the cavalier isnt riced! lol...its a 4door auto...

I know that the eastwood company makes a chip repair kit thats supposed to work pretty well, but yours sounds to be a little too big for that.

Something that big will definitely need repaired. A chip the size of a quarter is pretty frickin big, and one of those "chip repair kits" just isn't gonna cut it. lol

Is it on a fender or the headlight/grille/bumper panel?

in the middle of the top part of the fender...up by the hood...

It's definitely going to need repaired by a qualified body man. You probably know this, but the whole car doesn't need repainted, just the fender. Still gonna cost a good chunk of $$$ though.:rolleyes: :(

honestly it isnt that important if her car looks perfect...and the money definetly could be used for more important things than paint...so i was hoping they have some way of just stopping it from growing bigger...or maybe just fill in the spot...no blending...thats what makes repainting so damn expensive...

Unfortunately, About a week ago I pulled into a parking space too far and hit my air dam on the concrete sidewalk. It left a pretty big "paint chip" to say the least. I took it to the guys that did my mods and he found a guy that did a procedure called "burning in". It turned out looking great and didn't cost as much as painting the whole air dam. $150 as opposed to $450.
