FINALLY, ET'S for me!!!

Spent my first night at a track ever. it was so much fun except for a few areas but a great experience nonetheless. first things first, here are the numbers from my 3 runs;

1st run
ET: 15.333 @ 88.615mph (let off 20 yards before finish because of the crappy track having hardly any indication lines, i.e.-finish line. would have been faster and quicker, dangit.)
reaction time: .748

2nd run
ET: 15.410 @ 91.074mph (with passenger, went through finish in 3rd gear as opposed to barely in 4th in the 1st run)
reaction time: .601

3rd run
ET: 15.721 @88.519 (awful holeshot, & missed 3rd gear)
reaction time: .549

there was anything and everything there.the second run was beside a guy with a fricken 11 second SS wagon, so i couldn't here anything at the start, including my engine to get a better holeshot. same with a guy in a high 12 second rusted looking T/A beside me in the 3rd run.

now the first run was interesting. up beside a late 90's eclipse modded out the wazoo. i could hear the distinct whine of turbo, and from the looks and sound of it, nearly 3 grand or more was dropped into the car. he asked me before we lined u what i had in it, i said "just exhaust". and the result was nearly identical except for the holeshot which he sucked at (1.082), mind you i let off towards the end searching for the finish line.

sorry i said so much but it my first time and i loved the experience. what do you guys (and gals) think of the times, pretty close to what they should be?

Sweet Tod congrats on your first run!!!!!!! Sooo when ya going back to do it again????:D

See Ya,
Karen;)

Tod 09-12-2002 04:39 PM

thanks Karen, not until I get more mods in the car. headers intake, 3.75 gears, short-throw shifter, stuff like that. probly not 'till next year :(

Dark_5.0 09-12-2002 04:49 PM

Those times are just a little off. I ran a 15.2 @3000ft bone stock in my 88 convertible GT.

What year 5.0 do you have?

Are you at high altitude?

What was your 60ft?

BTW: Dont buy equal length 1 5/8's headers and put them on stock heads. I did and they made me 2 tenths slower:o

Later,

 I would think thats a little slow for your car...don't you have exhaust and some other bolt ons?

Mine ran 14.1 @99.something or other with just my 4.10s...I even had cats and the air silencer still on. Maybe mine is a freak? That night was the first time I raced my GT, and the other times the same evening varied between 14.7s and 14.2s, I think I must have run her 7-8 times. I haven't run her since, all my problems started shortly after that trip  and haven't stopped!!! :D

a few things to remember; i only have an h-pipe, flows, and a K&N air filter, not really any big changes. the biggest changes to a stang would be (i would guess) gears, short throw shifter and some pretty sticky tires if at all possible. i have none, stock gears (awful), stock shifter, and decent street tires, not axactly the formula for a neck-snapping run. my guess is that the gears will be the biggest difference in a 1/4 mile, no? on top of all that, it was my first time(s), and i made mistakes on all 3 runs.....i suck at it.

besides, i thought that my year GT ran 15.7's or so, stock. maybe not. there were other stangs there that had noticeably big mods (just by listening to them run) that were only getting times in the low and mid 14's. i thought i didn't do too bad for my first time but i guess i was wrong :(.

Near stock 5.0

I don't think you did badly at all Tod, especially for your first runs. We need to know your 60 ft. times though to make any suggestions. Remember too that everyone is fast at bench racing (we always claim our best run ever).

well, since i've only seen 3 timeslips in my life (yea, huge dorky monster, i know), and it doesn't actually say "60 ft" on the timeslip but i think it's 144.7mph @ 9.9 on the first one and goes 142 @ 10 and 138 @ 10.2 on the next two respectively.

no making fun heh

Well that WAS his question.. "Is this time good?" so we just tried to compare it to some of our own...and not everyone "claims" their best time, I disclosed my other times during the night. I think this kind of info can be helpful to others, especially when they are asking the ?s that Tod did.

No criticism

No criticism meant towards you Belle. I was just stating my opinion. I don't think he ran that badly, that's all. Still wondering about the 60' times.

Hell............I dont even know what year stang we are talking about.

Rev 09-13-2002 04:31 PM

5.0

We're guessing it's a 5.0 though, right Dark_5.0? LOL. We're not even sure if it's carbureted or EFI. But we still have strong opinions as to what it should run.

Dark_5.0 09-13-2002 09:28 PM

LMAO..... Yeah I guess your right.

Tod 09-14-2002 05:15 AM

the car in question is a '94GT 5.0 302ci 5spd, with the only mods being h-pipes, flows, K&N air filter and the silencer still in.

any easier?

btw, if the runs sucked then the rest of the drivers sucked that night as well. there were a few other SN95 stangs there as well (one of which was a Cobra) modded pretty heavily, running low and mid 14's

Wow, I'd say it's a bad track.

Dark_5.0 09-14-2002 12:56 PM

Now tht I know what your car is, your times are pretty close to what it should run. I am just guessing here but I bet your track is @ at least 3000ft of elevation.
