Never hit a Dodge Viper.
I went to pick up my car from the body shop yesterday and was looking at a sweet Dodge Viper GTS that was wrecked and I said man I just thought that I was up-set I bet that guy is pissed.
The man ask me how much do you think the hood was for that car. I said I dunno about $1,200.00. He replied "Not even close the hood was $24,000.00 and the front bumper was $6,000.00." Then he showed me the invoice for the hood. That is one of the most un-real things that I have ever heard. Later, |
HOLY ****!!!!! My neighbour works for the company that makes the back bumber and ****. I'm sure they make the hood too! He was going to try to get me one but they are pretty hard. It's the biggest company in Canada, and it's pretty much located in my town and the town next to me. The town next to me is the richest town in Canada and almost North America cause he lives there, and he pretty much bought half the town and built huge houses for all his high end staff to live in.

Oh well. There goes my plans for next weekend.
:) Take care, ÅChris |
That is just rediculous!!
|
$24 thousand dollars for a hood. At that price the car would be 4 million to just buy. You sure he aint jerkin your chain man. Thats a whole bunch of money

nah Brad, I've actually heard that those hoods are over 20k numerous times.
The whole car is way overpriced, and way over rated. |
When I took my engines class at the local cc in 1986, they showed us the paperwork for buying a bare-bones, no-frills '86 Camaro. Brand new, with warranty, it was around $8000. Then we got the parts list of every part it would take for you to build the car yourself, and their prices. The total was close to $30k, and that didn't include the frame, any labor, or any warranty.
You don't pay $20k+ for the hood when buying the car, but a replacement hood could be that much. Take care, ÅChris |
FWIW, I just did a quick check, and used hoods start at $2995.
Take care, ÅChris |
Yeh cars generally cost more to fix then it would be buy brand new. My cousins friend rolled an Aerio I believe it was, anyway he was doing like 160km/h and lost control and he ended up rolling the thing 3 times, it was $30,000 on like a $26,000 car. At that point they just ride it off. But what makes the viper hood so damn expensive?

When ever a manufactering company sells both parts and "complete" units there is always a massive price difference.
Margin expectations for complete units are typically 20% to 40% while parts margins are typically 40-80%. In both Caterpiller and Ingersoll-Rand's system I've seem O-rings with a cost of 2-3 cents sell for $1.00. Or a bolt cost $1.00 and sell for $10.00. Most company's realize that a machine will comsume atleast it's value in parts over it's entire life cycle if not 2 to 3 times!! |
What's the hood made of? gold? Seriously, if it's aluminum I could see it being very expensive as aluminum is difficult to work with when making smooth body parts. That's one of the reasons that wacky looking roadster that Dodge makes is so expensive.
But $24,000 new? I can get a fiberglass Cervini's for under $400! :D E |
I would be really curious on what it's made out of though. You can probably get a carbon fiber one customly made for cheaper. Hell you can probably buy the machine that makes the damn hood for cheaper. :D
