Your soundcard could be fugged. Also maybe you dont have the correct drivers for it to run. find out what kind of soundcard you have and you should probably be able to find drivers for it through thier website.

so, what is a sound card? Could there be a possibility that I ACCIDENTLY DISABLED MY SOUND IN ALL MY BUTTON PUSHING???? Where do I check to find out?

First try checking in your volume control, control panel.

Then look to see if you have disabled it in your BIOS. I would bet this is it, since your have been in the blue screens and all.

Most motherboards have sound built into them. The drivers are in the motherboards drivers. Being said, you can also add a PCI sound card for better sound, and disabling the built in sound.

And if you get real brave, update your motherboards BIOS.

Thats about all I know on these oversized spell checkers:confused:

went into the Control Panel. then into Sounds...no "BIOS" was there., jacked w/ a few things...did no good. Did not see a "volume Control". Prolly just screwed things up more than they allready were....:)

If you relaoded windows it sounds like your missing your sound card driver. Less the obvious, (plugs, cables, speakers, mute button etc).

Did you use a recovery cd? What ver of windows?

Sorry, I wasnt clear.

Your BIOS is a blue screen. I get to mine by hitting delete when my puter is booting. It takes you to a set up type of screen. I think is says either CMOS or BIOS at the top. There you should find all the settings for the hardware in your puter. Be carefull what you hit. But don't worry about messing it up either. Can be undone. Check there for the sound option, its a on/off selection.

See if that helps.

I had a compaq computer

christine

I myself had a compaq computer,it was my first one in fact.It never gave me any trouble, but at the same time it was nothing special.

Compaq builds everything so you can't do any upgrading within their system,so your stuck with basically what you buy.Thats why I'll never own another off-the-shelf computer again.

The Compaq that I had christine,it came with a recovery CD.Your best bet is to see if you can find that for yours. If not, then most likely what your problem is,is not havin the right drivers for your sound card, assuming that you have your speakers turned up,etc.

Good luck, and the next time you can afford too,get yourself a custom built one, you'll forget all about the compaq ;)
