VIN Question. Weird letters no one knows anything about.
I tried calling up Ford, they had no record of anything.
there are a couple problems. It starts: 1FADP What the hell is a "D" doing there? If I'm not mistaken that is the restraint system indicator, but I've never heard of a "D" type. Second of all, before the production number, there is a "KS" My insurance company was chewing my nuts about these discrepencies, although they finally caved. It just peaks my interest right now. If anyone knows anything or possibly knows someone who would, PLEASE let me know. Thanks in advance. |
Well, first, we need the year of your car, and the whole vin. We can't help u if we don't know about your car.

Here's a nice decoder that does it automatically for you...
http://users.ntplx.net/~jpjones/mustang/vinDecoder.htm the "d" means active belts and airbags, but you shouldn't have airbags and "k" is for model year 1989 I don't know about the "s" should be the assembly plant, but it lists it as unknown...weren't 89's made in Dearborn too? |
sounds like a freak or wrong stamp got put on your label
a diagram of vin code: 1FABP40A6KF000001 1FA=ford motor company B=restraint system(B-ACTIVE BELTS) P=Passenger car 40=body code(40-2dr LX, 41-3dr LX,42-3dr GT,44-2dr LX covertible,45-2dr Gt vert.) A-engine(A- 2.3, M- 5.0) 6-(not sure what this number represents) K-year(1989) F-plant (Dearborn) 000001-consecutive unit number this is for the U.S. retail production of the mustang, the alpanumerics you said are in the vin, may designate it as special service(police models) not quite sure about the canadian designation of vin, or even another country. are you the original owner? . .there could be a milion different things. *it could be designation of a special vehicle(police and or military police) *if it was stole earlier in its life, before you got a hold of it, it could be a new vin. *assembly is automation so there's bound to be at least one weird orange in bunch of apples, let alone a batch of 209,769 apples. if its stock as far as original color, engine, tranny, an body type(,hatch, notch or vert.) goes, you can decipher one through the above example |
Special Service Mustang Decoder Hope this figures something out.
