the sports cars are grand touring...hehe and the POS LX (non-5.0) stangs were the luxury edition? hehe....crazy... thanks :) |
I don't know who came up with that at Ford, but I would love to know how much money he makes, to come up with stuff like that.:D

I don't know if they were the first to coin the phrase but many years ago Ferrari came out with one of the first "GT"'s. Their moniker was an abbreviation of "Gran Tourismo" Something that, at the time was sorta like sport touring. Going long distances at speeds that would keep your heart pumping.

Watch some touring car races on Speedvision. It might change your mind about what 'touring' means.

I think you're right about the back seat thing, Rev. It seems to me that originally GT cars were supposed to be fast four seaters that were a bit luxurious and very comfortable but still hauled butt. Sort of a sports car for long trips at high speeds with multiple passengers as Medik mentioned.

Yes
I think we all agree.

LX's are way better than GT's!:D
Though I agree there isn't much luxury. That's what Bentley is for... ;) |
Gt's, LX's, et's?
GT's and LX's are manufacturer's designations. What I want to know are et's?

IIRC the origin of "GT" was from the "grand touring sedans" of italy, literally "Gran Turismo Ongolocada [sp?]", which in turn prompted Pontiac to come out with the GTO. Can anyone else confirm?
