New Emissions Go Into Effect Tomorrow!!
WELL...
We ALL knew it would come! They are starting the new emissions here in Galveston county and many other counties starting TOMORROW!!!!! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-040.gif They are doing the 'sniff' test, and they are going up from $12.50 to about $40!!!!!!! Mine expires next month, but I needed an oil change anyways...so, I went to my favorite guys here in town on Monday...they love my car, and they ALWAYS pass it...(even though my cats are in my ex's attic) http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-017.gif Cost me the usual, and gives us a year to figure out how to get around it. After they fool w/ it for a while, and the new 'process', we'll be able to find out if there will be a way that they can do it. Other option is to buy some Hi-Flow cats, but at this point I cannot see dumping almost $400 into that right now...maybe in a year, and i'm SURELY dont wanna put the stock cats on before inspections. PITA.... anyways...just thought I'd share my JOY w/ yall....lol...needless to say, the inspection places have been BOMBARDED this week! There were 2 guys there not due till August and October. So....I'm good for another year now. Thank God! For you HOUSTONIANS....or surrounding counties...TIMES RUNNING OUT! You got about 56 minutes left!!!!! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-008.gif TNT :) |
I feel your pain. I havent had cats for like 8 years... luckily every two years I find a cool guy or shop that will pass it for me. I live in Cali. I am not lucky like you and can get it done for $40 http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies...ad/nosmile.gif
Since they can get in a lot of trouble for passing it they usually charge me anywhere from $100 - $200. However, the way I see it, I would rather pay that price than put cats on it. Plus I LOVE the way my car sounds without them ... I dont think I could ever go back to a quiet stang. |
thank god i live in tn, run my o/r x-pipe 24 -7, 365 a year :D :D :D :D

:)
Didnt have to pay the $40 yet....that starts tomorrow...I just slid my Car in before it goes into affect. Still paid the $12.50, but they did not do the sniffer.
The guys there are not familiar yet w/ the whole process, so who knows what will happen next year? If they will figure out how to get around it, or if it will cost maybe a little Extra cash, like what your doing. I have faith in them. I know if there is a way, they will figure it out. Damn, $100-$200...thats STEEP...but...it beats spending the day under the car getting your hair caught in the creeper wheels! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-034.gif ;) TNT :) |
Sometimes it's nice to live out in the middle of nowhere. No emmision inspection here, and no talk of it coming anytime soon. :D

Speaking of which, in about 5 minutes, I'm going to be under my car putting my cats back on to pass emissions, isn't that something? ~Brian

Get a '78 or older
Get a '78 0r older and you'll only pay $12.50 like me in Texas. You would have to have the original pollution equipment operational. For me, that's only a PCV valve and nothing else.
Of course, I do have to do the full $39 dyno roll done on my other cars. Rev |

REV...question?
Hey Rev.
I got a question for ya! Me and a client were talking about the emissions today, and something occured to me, since we are doing the 'dyno' testing, can we get our cars DYNOED too at the same time???? ;) Or will they not take them up that high? I thought that would be cool if we could say, "while its there, go ahead and lets do the dyno and spit out my specs!" :) Dont you agree? What do you know about this ???? THANKS! TNT  |
Whimpy dynos
From what I've seen, the sticker/stop places have only small roller dynos geared only for giving inspection stickers. The places I've been (2) that do full power dyno runs look completely different and are geared for for full, wide open throttle runs to maximum power.

A couple of three things....
One - what theyhave are basicly just ewight droums with a speedometer hooked up to them ....In other words no software to compute load vs. acceleration to compute HP Two - guys in harris have been doing it for years weith the sniffer and for a hundred bucks they can be got all day long. Three - My personall favrite is Revs suggestion the newest car/truck I own is my 1967 falcon the next in line is a 1963 then a 1959 so i am not gonna start sweating anytime soon. Heck in one more year you can get a fox body stang and not have it sniffed just put the 87 up front clip, 1/4 glass and dash and nobody but the inspectors have to know it's a 79. |
That sucks :(
Welcome to my world (and the main reason the 95 is in garage) |
TNT,
Just come on up and get inspected here. No sniffers yet (knock on wood). Course, I guess you would have to have the car registered here as well? Yeah, I guess you could just simply sign the title over to me, and I'll let you "borrow" it for 11.9 months out of the year. ;) :D --nathan |

I wonder if I have to worry about emissions... I haven't heard anything about it where I live...

If you haven't gotten a notice in 2 years, you're lucky, chances are you don't have it, but it is popping up in different areas though. ~Brian
