2k 281, 2k3 Cobra, Other? hmm?
I found an awesome 2000 Saleen Supercharged S281 for 25k w/ 950 miles on it.
Im thinking of selling both cars and getting into this, or maybe a 2003 Cobra. The +'s I see on the saleen is better resale, its already taken a bigger hit in depreciation. And its a real head-turner. The +'s on the cobra, a 4v motor, IRS, and 6speed. Or just get a cheaper car under 12k 99-00GT or 96-98 cobra and dont get into big car payments. What do you guys think, I cant make up my mind at all! Skyler |
Hey Sky, how its going? I haven't seen you around much lately.
I am drooling thinking of that Saleen, but am like you and would be hesitant to get into big car payments. I would probably be a little more conservative with the money and opt for a cheaper GT or Cobra. You know that no matter which one you buy, you will sink money into it afterwards too. So, if you go the cheaper route, you can buy some parts and stuff for it and still be under the price of the '03 or the Saleen before any mods are put on them. Just my take on things. |
I agree, the new cobra or 281 would be nice, real nice. I do not see you leaving it stock though. I would stay away from big payments....get something a little cheaper...and then sink the cash that would have went towards the big payments into the mods.....when money allows.

Well, the way I think about things is like this: I much rather buy a cheaper car and have less to no payments and then mod the crap out of it instead of buying a car already "built" by someone else and have to make payments on it. The left over money from buying a cheaper car under 12k 99-00GT or 96-98 cobra would make that car way faster than any production Saleen. Modding my own car makes it more personal and I can do it exactly like I want it. The Saleen's suspension is awesome, but, the Cobra's can be upgraded. Plus, to me, I'd rather beat ls1s using a '98 Cobra than a Saleen. Gives more of a "shock value." ;)

Payments on a 25k car aren't going to be very much at all. Especialy after selling the other two cars as a down payment. All depends on what you want to do with the cars too. I wouldn't back out of the saleen cuz of payments after a 10k down payment you could easily get the payments below 300 on it. I am sure you can sell your other two cars for more than 10k.

what is the isurance diff on your choices? Sometimes you get all set on the car note and then get the surprise attack from the ins co. after you already bought. Cheaper car cheaper insurance usually and I don't think the insurance gets involved in the mods unless you want them to. However, one car may be cheaper than 2

Go for the Saleen! :)

Im getting a black 99 Cobra here locally. God they seem slow compared to the saleen, but oh well.

the cobra is going to be a sweet car with lots of potential for mods. A car that already drives nice......and it probably won't be long before you mod it anyhow.

I know what I would do..... 03 Cobra all the way....
Sold the '88 5.0 LX and the '97 Cobra.... Acquired a 1996 Cutlass as a Daily Driver and the '03 for weekends and nice days!!!! The '03 sure is a fun car.... I miss the LX more than I do the '97... But hey, the LX was my FIRST mustang.... |
Yeah I really like the car, but it needs more power sooooo baddd.
I couldnt get an 03 cobra cuz I hate watchin a car depreciate that fast! |
