New but motivated mustang owner

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2001 mustang gt. its my first mustang and would like to do what i can to make it have more bang for my buck. i am a smart person but have little to no experience working on cars so realize that most or all of my work will have to be either coached or done for me by professionals but i was wondering what you guys would do to make my car better. im looking to make it faster. ive heard upgrading gears.....cold air intake.....larger throttle bodies.......etc. and was just wondering what mods u would make if it were u and in what order.thanks to the pros.

First and foremost are GEARS. I'd say 3.55's or 3.73's. They'll probably cost ~$400 (after purchase and installation) but well worth it. The best bang for the buck IMO.

Agree, gears will make you think you are in a different car. I think you may have to get the computer reburnt to get the speedo right tho. Personally I'd add an K@N air filter, h-pipe and mufflers.

Start with a cat-back exhaust system and a K&N air filter and remove the air silencer. I have a CAI but I am not sure it does anything but look prettier under the hood. From there consider gears, etc. It all depends on what kind of performance you are looking for. This was all I need for my daily driver.

Ive heard that the cold air kits are worthless unless the coolant to the throttle body is cut off opinions on that? I was planing on doing a cak but if no noticable gains then i save for other mods

With a 2001 GT, go with at least 373 gears. They had 3.27's from the factory and 355's would hardly be worth the effort. If it was my car, I'd go with 410 gears. Thgen a k&N filter (I wouldn't bother with the cold air), and then an offroad h or X pipe. One of my friend with a 99gt had just a k&N and an offroad X and hit 13.7's@103 on street tires. With 373's and slicks it did 13.20's @102mph.
