Towed away this time! (Long)

Well I have an issue that I need some help with. I have an 88 GT that has a intermitent problem that I cannot figure out. I was driving the car normally for about 20 minutes when I started to feel a slight hesitation when hitting the gas to speed up. When I came to a stop the car could not hold an idle and eventually satlled out, could not get it restarted. This is the second time this has happened and this time the car had to be towed to the shop, but of course it started right up in the morning. Seems like a vapor lock problem but I have not done any mods in a few months? Anyone have any clue what the problem might be.

Maybe it is your TFI module. When they are going bad, heat really affects them. You might want to test it, or just replace it.

Good luck!

Sounds like a fuel pump problem to me. It only happens after driving around for a while, right?

The ignition module was also a good suggestion.

2nd vote for TFI..they are weird when they go but dont rule out FuelPump..
when they are old and about done, when they heat up they start to act real funny then die but you will be able to start your car later and it will be fine.

I vote for the fuel pump...
I had a 86 GT, same problem. Ran fine and then all the sudden just stopped. Gave it about 1hr to cool off, starts right up.
But then again, I had the problem with the module. It's easier to replace the module, do it first and upgrade. If that doesn't fix it, it's you pump and you have a new module that you won't have to replace in the future.
Ususally, a shop can tell you if it is the module or the pump by running a dionostic.
Usually if the module is bad it won't start back up...

I had the same problem but did not have to be towed away. I changed every part that could be thought of and yes it was the last part I changed! Change the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR and I would just about bet that that will FIX your problem.
