Post Watch Out!!! The WRX Is Here!!!

Well a friend and myslef went to test drive a new WRX Subaru. I called a local Sabura dealership and asked if they had any for sell, they said they had one on the lot and would let us test drive it if we were serious buyers. So we dressed up and took his MX6 on down. Well he let us take it out ourselves. 227 horsepower and all wheel drive was amazing. I could not get it to spin a bit. And the handling around turns was great. I love the fact that the US is getting a turbo factor car. I have always loved factor turbo cars. I am sure by the end of summer some of this cars will have over 350 horses. So stock Mustangers watch out I am seirous. Man it really is a nice car.

I'm so scared I'm growing feathers as I type this. Haha! Looks like a good excuse to talk my new honey into getting me a supercharger!

Intake 10hp, remove at least one of the THREE catalytic converters and add 3" downpipe and exhaust 20+hp(the better reason to do this is the increase in throttle response and turbo spooling). The funny(and good)thing is that the aftermarket already has all of the parts to upgrade this car as they really didn't change much at all(added a cat for the jap spec and put 2 more for the US spec).

BAH! 3 cats, those of us with stock stangs have 4! I don't think that a 3" pipe is really necessary, but as long as it doesn't sound like a herd of bumble bees, I won't complain.

Cool

dino

actually that 3" pipe w/o cats will help immensely. On a turbo car, backpressure is your nemisis. No cats.. 3" downpipe.. bleed some boost going to wastegate..

I bet it'd haul some *** for what it is, and spit flames btwn shifts

I want to turbo a 2.5RS cause i like the body style better than the newer WRX

93MPH... man that thing must have one nasty launch. The MPH shows what kind of power that motor is making. No need to worry unless you're in a stock stang. Good luck convertable guys

I think the two factors that will decide rather or not the WRX is a runner are: 1. How strong the short block is. 2. How strong the drive train compoments are.

The biggest hinderence of the VR4 was its massive weight and its weak transmission and drive shafts.

Guys (and girls)... Car and Driver is always out to lunch.. they rate the 2000 Stang GT at 14.6.

I've just read in Car News Weekly... 5.4seconds 60MPH, 14.2 Quarter. What does not make sense is the car ways 3050lbs and has 227HPS.

One comment in the article is the only way to get the car going is to keep in the 5000rpm +... so it's type R kinda car... I hate that. AWD though that rocks!!!

Something to think about anyways.

The block is the same as it has been in the Japanese spec. Same with the drivetrain.

So what does that tell us? Can the tranny handle 3000 rpm launches? And can the motor withstand additional boost?

Cool

I would think it could, with the proper precautions =)

And 3000rpm? More like 5500

I still wanna build up a turbo'd 2.5rs style impreza.. not too wild about the new style.

That JDM version has 270 hp stock, but is quite often upgraded far beyond that w/o trouble. So basically Inferno is saying that the WRX is upgradable.
