They are still double what they used to be. Yeah pricewatch, its a *****, my friend bought every component of his last computer there.

Took 4 weeks to get all the parts to finally show up. The Athlon XP 1900 Burned up, and the 512 DDR ram was no good.

Not to mention its a haslte to try to get them to honor some of those prices sometimes.

Its shitty how low the margins are on computer products at this time.

Your looking at 28-29 bux on there for SHITTY Generic 128 SDRAM, last month you could get Kingston 128s for 15bux.

Its worth paying 5 bux more and getting quality ram though.

I was thinking of upgrading the winme computer to xp instead of a format and install... is that no good? Should you always do a full format first? Should I do it on my win98 as well??? LOL

in my experience, a format and clean install works best for XP.
First time I put it on my system I had a few quirks. My HDD was really full so I said what the hell and did a format/install. All the little quirks went away. here are a few other things you might want to keep in mind: (just suggestions)

When you format, keep the FAT 32 file system. If you go with NTFS you cannot use a win 98 boot disk to reformat later and uninstalling windows becomes a real hassle.

If you are useing (AHEM) a "devils own" copy of XP, make sure you get make XP boot disks (available at microsoft.com) because that version is not bootable on a clean HDD

Get the updates as soon as you are done installing and configuring...that security patch is critical.

dont get frustrated if everything isn't perfect at first. A lot of hardware requires XP drivers that you must download off the internet, if you are having trouble finding them, e-mail me and I will find them.

If you have a CD burner, dont bother with the cd burning utility that it comes with...get nero or an equivalent (again if you need to know where to get the software, contact me...I gots a few resourcez

oh, get the Plus! for XP...has some really good stuff (unlike the previous versions) Just wait till you see the "serene screen" aquarium screen saver...very cool.

If you have games that dont seem to work anymore on XP, right click the icon you use to open it and then click the "compatability tab and switch it to 98/me.

All for now...will be happy to help if you have any questions.

I voted for the Mac too. Although I use a VAIO laptop at school, I learned and used a Mac for many years...starting with a SE/30, and now use a G3. I too have had to reload Win 98 3 times inthe past year, and never once did I have a problem with my Apples :)

I would stay with 98...we tried 2k, and it caused even more problems...but I am running a P2, so I say give it a shot.

I think I'm in love.

Take care,
