Return post count or not?...lets see your votes. PLEASE REPLY!!!

Well, we've had no post count here on Mustang Works for some time now. We've all had a chance for it to settle in and to see how the board is without it.

What I'm looking for here is to guage if members want the post count back.

Let's see your votes!

Fox Body 01-10-2003 01:17 AM

:D Hmmmm

Well, at first when they disappeared from the usual spot, I was kinda wanting it back, but now I could care less.... Seems like I know the people I know here so well, I don't need to see their post count everytime. Every once in a while I'll go to the top 100 posters and check it out. However, I'm glad we still have the option of viewing our post counts in our profiles. Reminds be how long I've been here. :)

Topless In Texas 01-10-2003 01:39 AM

no problem w/ me....:)

I for one, dont really miss it, but I would not mind seeing it again. :) Hell, every other message board has it....

and FoxBody is right, we can always look it up.....I just dont think its that big a deal if we have it or not. I just like it myself. Most EVERYONE here knows where everyone 'stands' in posts...it should just not be made a big issue of.....;)

:)TNT:)

PKRWUD 01-10-2003 01:44 AM

I'll say the same thing I've said all along: It helps me identify other members, just like their Location does. I don't care if mine is shown, I benefit from seeing other peoples post count listed. I would definitely like them put back.

Take care,
~Chris

I agree, same here

Dark_5.0 01-10-2003 10:37 AM

I find myself clicking on peoples profile quite a bit to see how many post they have.

About 80% of the members are newbies anyways.

XR1stang 01-10-2003 11:40 AM

post count != experience.

I know I don't post a tremendous amount here, but I have learned who knows what they are talking about just from reading the posts every day.

I have seen much too much contention on other websites because of post count and was actually pleasantly suprised to see that they weren't on here any more when I came back.

I don't care if they stay gone or they come back.

lol...im one of the top 50 posters here and i know very little about cars...so thats not really true...my post count means i have nothing else to do... :D:D....oh, and im learning :) hehe

i dont think it makes a difference anymore....i have 1/2 post anyways! :p lol

Hethj7 01-10-2003 02:35 PM

I am with Chris on this one. I help identify people by using their posts counts, although I realize that posts don't equal knowledge or even how long a member has been on the boards. I am here nearly everyday just browsing and keeping up with what is going on in BOL, but I rarely post anymore.

umm that's what the != means. It is the only way to represent a not equal to symbol on a QWERTY keyboard. Can't even do it with extended ASCII. So programmers use the != to mean the same thing as the old = with a / through it in mathmatical terms ;)

The Fireman 01-10-2003 04:33 PM

I don't really care about them, but it would be nice to have them back.

Yeah, I have it too, but it doesn't show up in here.

XR1stang 01-10-2003 04:58 PM

yah you can get a font to show it, but if someone doesn't have that font all they see is the square like on these boards :)

oh and most programming languages I know accept the != (pronouced bang equal) as the representative of not equal to.

XR½stang

bang equal is how you pronounce it? lol...interesting...id pronounce it not equal :D...crazy programmers...lol...

XR1stang 01-10-2003 05:47 PM

lol, the funny thing is I'm not a programmer! I just have been around them for much too long now and I have picked up some of their bad habits of interjecting bits of code speak in to real life communications.

and no comment on my neato spiffy uber ½ symbol? w00t!

XR1stang

Rev 01-10-2003 05:57 PM

I lked it

I liked the post count...............couldn't see what real harm it did. I can certainly live without it................but why should we? I guess Dan has his reasons?

digital3.3 01-10-2003 07:22 PM

i don't care either way. if they come back cool, if not cool.

90'5.0 Conv 01-10-2003 08:20 PM

I liked the post count also. I'm not here much and people come and go. The post count really helped me identify the people that were really devoted to the site. I would like to see it put back.

What the hell is this?

Hey Josh, that topic has been dead for the longest time man. Why are you bringing it up again? I don't know what anyone else thinks about this topic but as far as I'm concerned it's long gone.

Daniel.

Back when there was all the fuss about the post count I decided I would post a poll to see who wanted it back once then post count being gone settled in. So I sat back, waited for a few months.

Well I've been several months now, I wanna see if peoples feelings have changed. If the results were positive enough it might pursuade Dan to put them back......probably not, but you never know.

bigred90gt 01-11-2003 12:42 PM

I think the only thing a post count is good for is bragging rights. I don't know what you would brag about, but hey... I think that the date would be sufficient to see who is really devoted to the site, and as was stated before, if you really want to know how many posts a person has, the information is there you just have to get it.

Caymon

82 GT 01-11-2003 01:19 PM

I'm a fan of the post count but if people want a post count then I say this: Do like I do and manually put your post count at the left and update it through your profile a couple times a week.
That way it will help PKRWUD and others who use it to ID other users.
I would be nice to see Dan bring it back again but, hey, there are ways around this things.
My motto is this: If you see a mountain in front of you, don't try to go through it or over it...go around it....:D

srv1 01-11-2003 03:31 PM

Poll: dont care.
Poll: Still dont care
Poll: Got any beer?

Guess which one i picked? You get the point....

joe4speed 01-11-2003 05:50 PM

I liked it too, but it doesn't really matter anymore!

Crazy Horse GT 01-11-2003 05:58 PM

i voted dont care, it's a dead issue, so i dont care. :D :D :D :p

1969Mach1 01-12-2003 01:27 AM

At first I missed it but now I don't really care. I would like to see it come back, basicly for the reason Chris stated. But if it doesn't come back I'm not going to loose sleep. I've had hardly anytime for this site lately which kinda sucks so that isn't going to make a big difference to me.

Yep, that's what I used them for too.

Well, I'm not trying to be. Besides, if they did something like that, it really would get ugly.

The good news is that work is starting to pick up again, it's time to start getting the Sprint car ready, and I'll be busy for the next couple weeks building improvements for the RHC site, so I may become even more scarce. :)

Take care,
~Chris

I thought Dan removed the 1500 post requirement to change your title? No?

jj_jonathon 01-15-2003 11:23 AM

im not at 1500 and i could change mine....i think i was able to change it after 1000...maybe he lowered it?

84LX89GT 01-17-2003 02:19 AM

I don't care if the post count is visable or not. It's actually nice NOT having it because you see less "yeah, i know", "Yes", and "no" posts just to boost post counts. Alot of the post Wh0res are gone now, which is ALOT less clutter.

Sicy Stang 04-13-2003 11:16 PM

I like to see post counts.

tireburner163 04-14-2003 07:14 AM

hummmmm......only 13% don't want the post count back.

VeNuM 04-14-2003 01:35 PM

I would not mind seeing it return but it is something that can be done without. ~Brian btw, nice mods Josh:D

I just wish people would give up on this topic. Who started this, tireburner163? Man Josh, give it a rest. I think that Dan Mclain has already made up his mind on this one.
