Running From the Police

Have any of you guys run from the police? And made it?

Stang_Crazy 12-20-2002 02:00 PM

A friend of mine ran from the cops in his 97 SS. My bud was speeding and saw a cop sitting by the road...instead of jambing the brakes, he downshifted and took off. The cop pulled out and gave chase. The SS was up to 120 and cruising. He came up to a big intersection and there was another cop car in the intersection trying to block his path. The SS rolled right through the intersection and turned up a side street. He hid in someone's driveway with his lights off for like an hour!! haha this took place at 2:00 a.m. so there weren't any cars on the road.

He may have gotten away but he was crapping bricks for the next week or so...Everytime the phone rang, he thought it was going to be the cops saying they got his plate # :)

Damn! That is crazy! lol I would be shitting myself for sure. And I think I would have my car painted the next day too. lol ;)

My dad ran once in his younger days, he got away but ran into the cop in traffic later that day. But the cop couldn't prove it was him so he got off. =)

NYC1 12-20-2002 04:24 PM

DANG!!!!!!

I think I saw your friend on that show, most scariest police chases!! :D

Those cops are probably furious and looking for him, but I guess they can't prove anything.

DAN-MAN 12-20-2002 04:52 PM

My mom's cousin, back when he was alive, would out run the cops all the time. He had an old Roadrunner, I think. He'd out run them and then they'd call the next day telling him to come down and pay his speeding ticket.

Daniel.

BlueMust5089 12-20-2002 05:54 PM

Those are crazy, i got pulled over yesterday for speeding i knew i could ouutrun the State trooper's explorer but Icould never out run the radio so i took my ticket and i'm going to court.

2FastLX 12-20-2002 09:03 PM

I was driving down the highway going to work one day behind 2 cars that were going 75 in a 55. I stayed with them for a few miles then decided if a cop was going to turn he was going to go after the Red Mustang (me). So I slowed down to 65 or 70 and let them put some distance on me then sped back up to 75 to keep in sight of them. Not more than 5 minutes later that's exactly what happened. A State cop coming from the other direction let the 2 cars go by at 75, then when he saw me he looked right at me and jammed on his brakes and swerved into the median. He had a perfect opportunity to turn around and be on them in no time, but elected to turn into a crowd of cars to single me out. I was in the process of passing a semi and watched the mirror as he tried to find an opening to pull out. I got about 3/4 mile to a mile on him before he started after me. I got in front of the semi and positioned myself so I could see him gaining in my driver side mirror and timed it so he would be beside the semi just as a side road came up. I even slowed the semi down to help time it just right. When he was beside the semi I shot down the side road and that was the last I saw of him. By the time he realized I was gone he had passed the semi and was in no position to turn around. To make this story even more interesting I passed another State cop driving the opposite way as me on that same road, and was probably doing close to 90 from the adrenalin rush. He slammed on his brakes but I was entering some S-curves and never saw if he tried to turn around on me or not. I made it to the next highway, turned left, and drove the speed limit the rest of the way to work freaking out the whole way :D

I look back now and laugh because it serves them right for picking on me and letting two "respectable" looking cars go by commiting the same crime.

mustangII460 12-20-2002 09:38 PM

Can't say I have.

Signed, The Police;)

2FastLX,

That is funny. I've been singled out many times. I guess that's the price we pay driving Stangs.

mustangII460,

U 5-0?? :D

I got a few cop friends with stangs. When I was driving south on I85, I saw marked and unmarked cops driving camaro cruisers. Up north on RTE 17, I saw cops driving Mustangs, also on RTE 50 in MD.

badasswindsor 12-20-2002 10:33 PM

running from the cops is not fun unless u get away

Yeah he is a 5-0.

Where abouts on 17?

srv1 12-20-2002 11:16 PM

oops! Didnt answer the question. I never outran the police from high speed perspective. i have lost them in a neighbor hood before, but i wasnt recklessly driving. I dont think it is worth running away from them. That game of odds i dont play. i rather get points on my license and a fine any day then going to a slammer with a record. Just my opinion though.

2FastLX 12-20-2002 11:44 PM

You have to use a little finesse when you do run. You gotta make it look like you don't see them and you're just toying with your car. I've given a bit of a chase on a couple occasions where I couldn't get away because they were on me before I could do anything about it. I just told the cops I didn't even know they were there.

I had one pull out behind me about a half mile back and I could tell he was after me. As soon as I got over a little hill where he couldn't see me I kicked her down and was running 100+ mph. As soon as he was getting ready to come back into view I slowed way down. He caught up to me and pulled me over. Then he asked me why I was running. I said "If I was running you wouldn't be standing next to my car right now". He started a half mile back and it took him about 2 miles to catch me so I knew he had to realize I was moving pretty fast, but he let me go anyway.

Crazy Horse GT 12-21-2002 12:36 AM

back in the 70's- yes, now no way, i like a black car because they dont pay you much attention, but i wont run from them anymore, too dangerous.;) :D :D :D :)

The Deuce 12-21-2002 12:53 AM

Once, in my Escort of all things. I was crusing up the freeway, had the thing darn near pegged.(past the 85:eek: ) Went by a CHP sitting on the left shoulder, I was in the far right lane. Saw his lights come on, and I ditched down the next off ramp. Made three quick rights into a commercial complex with a parking garage. Went up a story and parked. Scariest thing I ever did, don't plan on doing it again.

I do 'ramp' on cops often though. FYI, ramping is a techniqued used out here by cops to get back behind a group of cars they want to nail. They see the cars coming hot in their mirrors, but slow down when they see the CHP. The cop will get off and right back on, thereby getting behind the cars.

Luckily I have enough cop friends to know about the technique, so I always watch the onramps for their return. I've also done it to get behind a CHP that I've blown by on the shoulder. HE HE, works both ways.:D

BlueMust5089 12-21-2002 04:15 AM

I gotta tell you NYC1 Md state police have all kinds of cars to light you up with. I used to do dealer exchanges for Valley and the cars i've seen pull people over man if you can name it they've got one. So keep an eye out.

Why are you going to court? Were you speeding?

Some states have a requirement that you appear, even if you are going to take the ticket and point, others you only have to go to fight or request traffic school.

HotRoddin 12-21-2002 03:31 PM

I won't go into detail because i'll just piss everybody here off, but let me say this ... any a**hole running down a busy hwy at 100 MPH trying to get out of paying a lousy ticket is a ******* idiot. If one of these idiots ever slaughter my little girl or my son or my wife, they better move to the dark side of the moon, because thats the only place i won't find them.
I have to look at the carnage at the end ... the body covers and the dried blood and some guy standing there going yeah thats where the little boy was sitting, it hit him so hard it knocked him through the side window and he landed all the way across the street.
Just pay the dam ticket !!!

mustangII460 12-21-2002 09:41 PM

Im with HotRoddin on this one for several reasons that I will detail.

I have worked my fair share of motor vehicle fatalities. Most of which are not from running from the law but simple fatal errors. The same errors you will make when being chased. I have see the end results of several in my city, from those who thought they could out run the law.

I do chase and do not chase, just depends on the infraction.

The worst part about it is when I have to tell your loved ones that you died. I also get to see the last expression on your dying face as it cools. Had one girl whose throat was ripped out. She stood in front of me, gasping, waving her arms at me, collapse, and die. I told the family she died on impact. A part of me died that day too.

I curse those who put me through this. A accident is one thing. But to kill on purpose is beyond words.

Crazy Horse GT 12-21-2002 10:35 PM

i back what hotroddin & mustangII 460 are saying, it just aint worth it, especially if you kill someone who is just minding thier own & driving.

NYC1 12-21-2002 11:20 PM

Srv1,

It was Rt 17 north coming from NYC towards Middletown around 1993. That's when I had my Calypso green Fox body.

mustangII460,

Hopefully the guys on this site will not run reckless. It sounds like most of them had done it a time or two when they were younger and didn't know better. It's just not responsible, and as far as I'm conernerd, If you're willing to run you're willing to die. That's what I think when I see those shows: scariest police chases.

BlueMust5089 12-21-2002 11:30 PM

Ok i looked back at some of the replies (incl my own) and it almost looks like we're advocating running.I was just asking to see if people looked in their mirrors and said (like i did) i can outrun him. i think the people who run are asking for more than their share of trouble in the long run . It was a repair citation that i'm challenging. tint too dark(he used his naked eye) and i'm 1% over legal i got the state police to check it the day it was installed.

Crazy Horse GT 12-21-2002 11:32 PM

hey nyc1, will that strut tower brace fit a 99+ , let me know.:D :D :D :D ;)

Ahhh, that's why I like Michigan law. Very simple; tint what you like behind the driver, as for the driver and passenger, you may do a shade band at the top of the window just as a factory windshield has.....nothing more. And don't even think of touching the windshield.... Easy tickets! :D

BlueMust5089 12-21-2002 11:47 PM

MD law says 35% all I'm at 36% all around he just looked and said they were too dark. he would have been better off giving me a ticket for my illegal exhaust.

NYC1 12-21-2002 11:58 PM

Crazy Horse GT,

I'm not sure if it would fit a 99+? anyone else know? If it does, it's yours! :D

bigred90gt 12-22-2002 12:37 AM

I thought about running once from a camero cop getting on I-10 off of 610, but, I thought about the consequences of running and then of killing me or someone olse, and took the ticket. I don't think I would ever run, I just wasn't brought up that way. I was brought up to face the music. Besides, if you get caught running from the police in TX, they'll probably fry you in the chair, they seem to like doing that around here. Texas, the capitol for capitol punishment!!!!:D :D

joe4speed 12-22-2002 05:17 AM

Twice

Both times I saw them turning around in the median with their lights on.
First time was in the stang and saw him turn around and got off the next exit and went through a ton of back roads. never really even had to speed.

Second time was on the ninja, I just opened it up, there was never even a chance obviously.

2FastLX 12-22-2002 12:36 PM

I don't run to the point you see on TV where the guys are doing 120mph with other cars all around them and 10 cops behind them with a chopper. But if I'm on an open stretch of road and the cop loses sight of me, I'm gone. I hate paying tickets. It's all a big government scam to rob us of our hard earned money. I've never been involved in an accident when I was driving the car, and have helped others avoid accidents by being in the passenger seat. And I've had at leat 30 traffic tickets in my day so it's not like I don't drive fast everywhere I go, and still haven't had a wreck. And it hasn't bee just luck. There has been plenty of times I could have been involved in some serious wrecks had I not been aware of my surroundings.

All this bulls!!t about people driving fast being murderers is just that. BULLS!!T. It's IDIOTS that drive fast that are murdering people.

I think if you have driven for 10 or more years without an accident you should be able to drive any way you f'n want.

20LbsBoost 12-22-2002 09:22 PM

If I didn't know any better I'd say someone's trolling with a post like that ^.....

tireburner163 12-22-2002 09:41 PM

I wouldn't make it some big drawn out chase like on TV.

I would how ever, duck down a side road, or take a quick exit if I though I would lose him.

88workcar 12-22-2002 11:02 PM

I had just passed 6 cars. Then went into a long sweeping turn and met the fuzz. No shoulder, dark-30, I was going 80. I grabbed 4th and nailed it. Turned the lights out. Just a little piece down I took a right, 100 yards further another right, into a subdivision. 1st house with no cars, I pulled in and watched him pass on the main road do-en a hundred as he passed. I was so scared, I made me think about a lot of stuff.
Me and Corey were on the road going to Morgan City. 80-100mph we met a state boy. He turned around I was ten feet off Coreys rear end. He passed me, stopped Corey, then flagged me in. Corey got a speeding ticket, I got an expired inspection ticket. Go figure that one? I have been pulled over with a group of cars, and watched the as5 hole let every one go but me. The same tropper wrote up a guy with a brand new set of ET streets for illegal tires.

2FastLX 12-22-2002 11:40 PM

Oh man, I forgot all about the time I wasted the fuzz in my wife's Neon. I was doing 50 in a 30 and the cop was going the opposit direction. He went to spin around on me and I floored it. Took the next left, turned off the lights, used the parking brake to whip into and alley and parked right behind a pizza joint. I ducked down in the car and laughed as the cop flew by stopping at the next intersection and flashing his spot light around everywhere. I hopped out of the car and walked down the road toward him so I could see what he was doing and it was all I could do to keep from falling on the ground laughing at him.

wantapony2001 12-24-2002 09:59 AM

over the summer i made a rolling stop thru a stop-sign near a big parking lot, i saw this cop's lights go on and he was behind a chained fence of the lot, he wouldve had to go allllllll the way around the parking lot to get out....so i took off, made a few turns. he had such a long trip to get out of that lot what made him decide to park there???!!! oh well .another time i passed someone this guy who was going 22mph in a 45 zone , i passed him where i shouldnt of have .....and a cop saw me, it was dark and i just happened to turn into the parking lot of a car show!!!! HA! i knew it was going on and i desperately headed up the block for it. beat that for laughs

MEDIK418 12-24-2002 11:46 AM

I shouldn't tell this. In 1975, route 3 in Virgnia East of King George county. Back then the highway patrol would use these little radar "cameras" mounted on skinny tripods some distance from the car and you'd never see the car till it was too late. I'm not even sure it was legal but they did it. The area has lossa trees and just before a clearing, a really big clearing the guy riding with me screams something about radar. I saw the radar gun just before a road that ran perpendicular to the highway and when we passed the road, there was this big ole State cop sittin far enough back that you wouldn't notice him if you wasn't lookin. I was lookin. Seein as how I was already goin about 80, the road was a rollercoaster of short hills and I had already been pulled over once in that state (with 7 tickets to show for it) I decided to see how quickly he couldn't catch up. TH
his whole area is dotted with sideroads and trees are so thick you gotta cut three down to put in an outhouse. As soon as we came to a dirt road I ducked in and eased off into the jungle where there was little light and fewer cops. The whole episode lasted about a minute and a half.

FYI. . .in Virginia, and I figure it's still the same now, you cannot alter a car in any way from the factory stock version. I even got nailed for having dual exhaust. When I tried to tell the guy I was only station here for a short while and it was legal in Texas, where the car was registered all he said was "Well. . .this is King George county son"
