Hehe...I've been around here for longer than 99% of the people who are now active on the boards, and I haven't broken 1000 yet. I don't know how some of you guys and gals get 1000+ posts in less than a year, but kudos to you. Of course, I reached my current post level on a dial-up. And most of it done on dial-up in the middle of nowhere through free-access servers (remember the days of NetZero and Juno??) that kick you off every 5-10 minutes. I guess it taught me patience and perserverence.
I like the post counter for the same reasons given...it can (but not always) tell you who's been around for a while and who could possibly know what they are talking about. Of course, you could figure that out by looking at the date of registration.
