Spanking pros and cons

When we stop using common sense and start letting 'experts' tell us how to raise our kids, the trouble really begins. Not all parents are ideal but most normal mothers and fathers have the right instincts.
A child should always have respect for the parent and the parent needs to be fair with the child (don't treat a 10-year-old the same way you treat a 5-year-old) and rules should be reasonable and clear. Any punishments threatened should be carried out, including a spanking, but if you have to spank every day, there's a clearly a problem.
I believe that telling a child they're 'stupid' or 'ugly' or anything hurtful does more long-term damage to a child than any spanking will ever do. To a young child, the parent is their whole world. When their world is threatened by the withdrawal of affection or hurtful words, it scars.
No one would advocate beating or any kind of real physical abuse that does damage but to spank an unruly child is not dangerous to their mental health, now or later. Never has been, despite the experts now claiming the opposite.
Unfortunately, in the 'Nanny-State' we're turning into in America, such spankings could get you hauled into a Social Services/Child Protective Services hearing and you could lose custody of your own flesh and blood, over a spanking, with the case worker no doubt quoting this kind of 'study' to justify the state claiming you're now unfit to raise your own child.
It's happened., so parents, be warned that the child you raise may have your name, but the socialists running the state & county Child Welfare departments have their own built-in, legal claims on that child and will call them in if you give them the opening. After all, 'It Takes a Village' to raise a child.
