swampcat - i need to know in what condition it is whining - when going in reverse from park - while moving ??
Mine makes a click sometimes when reversing from park if the button on the stick is not fully engaged while doing so - it is best to let the gear fully engage in any direction prior to moving the car ... most people make the mistake of putting the gear in drive after reversing and meanwhile the car is still moving !!!!
