I think the way American Car manufacturers differentiate themselves is through styling... the worse thing that they've done is mimic European styling... then try to compete on price.

The revival of the Muscle cars, I think, is a huge step for them... it goes back to styling, where you can actually sell a car for the sticker price.

Also good to see Ford taking up the alternative energy market... seemingly alone, at least in the US... if that turns out to be a profitable venture, they should certainly find a market for the products...

These aren't easy steps to take... for the company, certainly not for the employee, for the suppliers... and even the shareholders who have to scale back expectations. But if it does what it needs to do, make Ford an efficient company again (Ford was running at around 70% capacity)... combined with the hopes of new product lines that people actually want to buy, then this will be a watershed moment for the US car industry.
