![]() Hey, just bought a 79 Fairmont with a 302 and C4 tranny , would like to build a very powerful naturally aspirated 302 (stroked to a 347 possibly). Just got car and haven't pulled engine yet. Looking for all different options, thanks for your comments.

![]() Ah yes, some one else is starting a project car. Glad to see I'm not alone. The only thing is, your already way ahead of me, I still have to buy/find a 64 Falcon.
I chose to go the All out, Balls to the Wall, Move over here comes the Judge, Put on your ear plugs, Fatties in teh back, skinnies in the front, 351 cubic inches of wild camming power, side pipe bellowing beast. Keep us posted on your sleeper project. Have you though about a 351, or Strocker motor for your project? What are your goals for this project? Like Estimated Power output. Quarter mile times. Weight. Looks. ------------------ 64 1/2 "D" code Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, Mallory duel point. Ported & Polished 65 heads shaved .01 with 351 valves, 11:1 comp, 1.7:1 rockers, blue wolverine lumpy cam, modified 4100 Hipo 4 barrel. GT Apperance pkg. And to many others to list 2000 Perf Red Mustang GT. 5spd. BBK Underdrive pulleys, Flotech off-road H pipe. Hurst T-Handle, 40 series Flowmasters, Steeda Tri-Ax 64 1/2 red 6cyl coupe. Future resto. |

![]() I had an '83 zephyr (basically the same thing as the car you bought) but i decided to get a mustang instead because the car was a straight 6 and i'd have to get a bunch of stuff to convert it to the 351 i had i mind. My opinion on what you should do:
mild (or wild) 460 with a C6 trans, 8.8" rear with 3.55 gears all with stock steel wheels widened and enlarged to 15x7 front and 15x8 or 9" in back (by a company like stockton wheel service) and with wire wheel covers, as well as dumps for exhaust before the axle and the stock tailpipe or the tiny straight 6 pipe sticking out the back as a decoy pipe (the L6 pipe turns and goes behind the left rear wheel, is small and very visable). Go for the total sleeper effect! although a 347 with a balanced combo (for example the edelbrock performer RPM package, etc.) with a built C4 (with shift kit, manual valve body, trans brake and higher stall converter) and 3.73 gears would make that thing go like crazy as well as the previously mentioned sleeper items. Good luck, I'm jealous, i'd like to do a sleeper car as well, but i can only have so many projects. ------------------ '84 Mustang 5.0 LX My car |

![]() I like your ideas 84stanglx. I really have thought about the 460 but I still would like to build the C4 that I have and use it. As for the gears I was thinking of something lower (4.10s maybe). You know I got this car for $100.00. I realy think I lucked out . As for the wheels, I have some stock aluminum wheels off a 90 stang gt. What do you think?

![]() I think those aluminum wheels would look pretty good on the fairmont. You got a great deal on that car! I've heard though because of the lower fender flair on the rear 225 width tires may not fit with those wheels. There is a page called Fairmont/Zephyr enthusiasts that used to have a great message board, but the board closed. You can look through the "hot rods" section and get ideas from some of the members cars (some of the cars are pretty sweet). I think the site address is: http://www.cyberspacedesign.com/fairmont/
I think you may be a little steep with 4.10's on that 3 speed C4 non overdrive trans even on a high revving engine. Larger tires would help that though ![]() Paxton makes a supercharger for '83 to '85 mustangs (i believe the carbureted ones), so I believe it would be easy to convert your fairmont over to work with that for pretty cheap. You may not even need to get a serpentine belt drive system....but i don't know that much about the supercharger. Good luck and have fun! ------------------ previous name: 84stangLX '84 Mustang 5.0 LX my LX '89 Mustang GT my GT |
